My husband and I truly enjoyed the 6.5 mile (long) trip down the Cuyahoga River. We rented 2 single kayaks which were quite comfortable and had nice paddles. The bus trip to the drop off point was one of the nicest we've ever experienced for a canoe/kayak trip - usually it's a rickety old school bus but Burning River Adventures had a nice, comfortable bus which made the beginning of the trip quite enjoyable! The guide helped to unload the kayaks and helped us get them launched into the water. The river was absolutely gorgeous! There were 2 fun rapid areas spaced through the trip, and the river was quite clean! They'd recently had a decent amount of rain so the river was running fairly quick which made it a lot of fun. Efficient friendly clean. I thought charging for the 3rd person to sit in our 2 person canoe was a rip off at $40 a person but with 2 parents and a 12 yr old what choice did we have. 8/27/20 I came here with my friend and her son and we went kayaking for the day. We made reservations yesterday as it’s required per the website along with filling out a safety form. It cost $30 to rent a kayak for the day. We were out for 6 hours with ours. I didn’t realize this water way would take us to the Loveland castle, which was a nice surprise as we got to explore that as well. Highly recommend this place if you plan to explore the castle while kayaking out here. It’s so worth it! This was definitely our best canoe trip yet. We’ve visited multiple canoe liveries here in Ohio and this is the most scenic, peaceful, and well-run one by far. This is definitely a great, reasonably priced (pd $60 +tx) outdoor activity for the entire family, ages 3 (30#) and up. We comfortably sat all 8 of us in the non-flippable raft and used 4 paddles. Owners are friendly and conscientious about their operations and provided pertinent information on safety and the layout of the 3 mile trek. We packed a lunch (bring lots of water) and stopped along the way at the beach after the sharp right turn. On the day of our visit, the water was shallow and calm enough for the kids to swim, took time to build sand castles (kids brought beach toys), look for rocks, shells, treasures, time goes by....we spent an easy 5 hours here. Wear old clothes/swimsuits with water shoes. Bring dry clothes. Water was clear and clean in this area. Played free mini-golf using online coupons. This was our first time.. and it won't be our last. Great time kayaking the Cuyahoga River! It was a very peaceful location to kayak. Kayaks were newer and in great shape as were the life jackets. Employees were knowledgeable about the river and made sure we knew what we were doing before setting us off on our adventure. Rented 2 canoes for my family on a Saturday afternoon. River was full of inflatable tubes roped together which made it extremely hard to maneuver. Thousands of people on the river that you inevitably ended up bottle-necked which made social distancing impossible, people brought stereos on rafts so music was blasting down the whole river, open drunken behavior, loud/obnoxious swearing, signs with obscenities offering beer while objectifying women, and lots of trash (beer cans and food wrappers) in the water. No one (outside our group) was wearing masks despite stacked together in line to pay, no sanitation of oars, life vests, or boats (they were taken right off the trailer for the next group), and no masks while on the school bus back to the livery (not even by the driver.) Great if you're looking for a 21+ crazy party atmosphere. Awful if that's not your purpose.See more..

My boyfriend and I were camping nearby and decided to book a kayaking trip. The first time we called (about a week out) we were informed that the river was too low and they weren't booking trips, however, we got lucky day-of and were able to make it work. John was honest about the conditions being less than ideal given the dry season the area had been having but we decided to go for it anyway and I'm so glad we did! Our group did the 3 mile tube float. Overall, it was a great experience. Compared to other outfitters I have used this is a smaller one, but the service was good. We are not from this area and were completely unfamiliar with the river, but we were given excellent descriptions of what to expect. The river itself is a class 1 stream with gentle rapids and sections of flat water. The main obstacles were logs in the river that had to be navigated around, but nothing serious. There were nice sand bars and the river's bottom is mostly gravel with dirt banks.See more..

They were kind and helpful from check in to when the bus drops you off at the end. The store was marked for social distancing and the bus was as well. We did a two day excursion with a group to Fremont, Ohio for kayaking with Ghoul Runnings. Wow, it was a fantastic time. The first day we saw over a dozen eagles flying overhead and perched on the trees above. Day one it was mostly a calm running river with just a few rapids and short drops. Everyone stayed mostly dry and enjoyed our quiet trip downstream. Our second day was awesome as we suited up and headed upstream in a shuttle bus to our drop-off location where we launched Koko (Kokopelli) inflatable boats. These military style kayaks are lightweight and utilized by the military for special ops missions. They were easy to maneuver and provided optimum buoyancy when navigating rough water and waterfalls. Why did we need the Koko boats? Well, the first two hours of the excursion was exciting with a few rapids and small waterfalls. There was some fast moving rapids with splashing and everyone got a little wet, but it was fairly easy for everyone to paddle successfully to our pull out location. There we were informed that we had the option to exit now and ride the shuttle or continue on for another bonus 30 minutes with a higher challenge involving Class 2 rapids, steeper vertical waterfall drops and faster moving water. A few in our group decided to stop while they were safe and secure on land, however the majority of our group decided to go for the gusto and continue on our aquatic journey. Wow, the rapids did not disappoint, everyone enjoyed the thrills of the last leg of the excursion as our boats quickly navigated the swift current and waterfall drops before jumping up over and through the waves. For many of us this was the most exciting part of the trip! Everyone was soaked and tired but the memories will last forever. This excursion exceeded our expectations and everyone is already asking if we can return next year for another adventure down the Sandusky river.See more..

We had an excellent time at Cast Away Kayaking. They're only about 30 minutes from Athens. Communication prior to arrival was great as they answered all my questions promptly. This operation is fairly new as they opened up in June of 2020. They're purposefully running a smaller operation with only about 15 kayaks, but the kayaks are in great condition and the customer service was spot on. They also made a point to follow COVID policies with thorough cleaning and masks. As for their location, I think it's worth it to call out that this area of the Hocking River is much more peaceful and scenic with no trash in the river like you'd likely see upstream in Logan or Athens. Definitely consider these guys if you don't mind driving a little bit further to access.See more..

If you are in the Toledo/Perrysburg/Grand Rapids area, I would highly recommend exploring the Maumee river by kayak. We rented 3 tandem kayaks and had a family group aged between 10 and 55. We had a fantastic afternoon on the river and saw a couple of bald eagles and lots of turtles. The people at the shop were super friendly and helpful and we would highly recommend renting here. After the kayaking, you can explore the super cute town of Grand Rapids and I would recommend LaRoe's for a bite to eat.See more..
