    Hands On!!
There is no more unique air museum experience anywhere in the country than that offered at the Champaign Air Museum. First, they are building a B-17 practically from scratch. A B-17 !!! There are original B-17 parts in there, but about 90% of it is newly constructed on site. Second, all of the friendly volunteers at the Champaign Air Museum are patient and informative beyond belief. Not only is what they are doing on a daily basis absolutely fascinating, but they will stop and explain in great detail what the part is that they happen to be working on and where it will fit on the plane. And finally, and this is the best part, they will (more often than not) ask if you would like to help them build the part! This isn't just a museum that you can get up close and personal with an iconic World War II bomber, and not only do you get to touch parts of it, but you can actually help BUILD this magnificent machine!!! They show you what needs to be done and just how to do it. Of course, you don't have to help out. You could simply slip a couple of dollars (or a couple of 20's) into their donation jar and wander around the place, but who wouldn't jump at the chance to assist in the creation of such an amazing aircraft? There is a good restaurant on the field and several nearby in town that could supply you with nourishment to keep you going there all day, so there is no reason that you couldn't really immerse yourself in the experience they offer. The Champaign Air Museum is only about 20 minutes north of the NMUSAF at Wright Patt and is a must see for anyone who is in Dayton to take in the abundant history of this cradle of aviation!

    EXCELLENT LITTLE MUSEUM
This museum caught me off guard. I never knew it existed, as I was on my way up north. It's next to a small aircraft airport and I heard that the pies at the Airport Cafe are scrumptious. I will definitely have to stop by. This museum has a donation entry, a nice variety of historical artifacts and they build airplanes in-house, which was very cool to observe, indeed. A true must-see.
