    Good transport to island
We went to the island for the day. Parked in free parking lot across the street and bought a combination ferry/carriage tour ticket. You can save a few bucks booking on line. We got right on the ferry and arrived on the island in about 16 min. Buying the carriage tour ahead of time really isn’t necessary as you have to stand in line anyway to get a carriage tour time. If there are lots of bikes you have to wait to board after they load them. But not really a problem as they are pretty quick.

    Smooth operation, but packed!
To be fair, I would not expect these ferries to be less than packed in July, which is prime tourist season. However, I would wish the ferry operator would encourage windows open on the inside cabin on a nice day like it was. Instead, a lot of folks didn't know how to open windows and it was stuffy... not great during COVID times. Other than that, though, loading and unloading were swift. The boats can handle all types of weather. We took the ferry on a sunny day with some choppy waters, but the day before, from our hotel room, we saw how some boats had to navigate an afternoon gale of a storm, and they did. Take some dramamine and enjoy the ride!
