Great stop for breakfast, lunch, souvenir shops, WC, hotel stay on your route from Baden-Baden to Schwarzwald (Black Forest). The road to Lake Mummelsee from Baden-Baden took approx. 18.5 miles (30 km). The lake is beautiful and the surrounding forest is magnificent. You can bring your own food and have a picnic around the lake, there are tables here. Or you can buy everything you need to do this, including hot coffee, sausages, sandwiches, etc. Wow, what a lovely selection of German food, fresh bread, wines, sausages, pasta, cheese, ham and the best souvenir shops I've seen in Germany. Cuckoo clocks are also sold, for every taste and of good quality. The shops open daily. This place has two car parks - upper and low levels. We arrived at 10 o'clock in the morning and the upper level was almost full. At the moment when we left the lake at about 12 noon, both parking lots were full. So try to be there as early as you can. We got in free having paid the local tourist tax for our villa. This was one of the highlights of the holiday the kids loved the water "toys" trampoline, 3m climbing wall, diving boards. Good on site restaurant. This is natural swimming lake but much better than a pool. The non swimming area had a concrete bottom, otherwise it was a gravelly lake. Der See liegt im Wald auf der Kuppe eines Ausläufers des Pfaffenbergs bei Wendelsheim zwischen dem Ammer- und Neckartal. Von Parkplatz an der Grundschule Wendelsheim lässt sich der See in einer halben bis dreiviertel Stunde bequem erreichen. Dabei führt der Weg zunächst durch Weinberge auf den Hügel. Hier kann man einem sehr schönen Rundweg durch einen alten Steinbruch, am See vorbei zu einem Ausichtspunkt über den Weinbergen folgen. Zu empfehlen ist der Zugang durch den alten Steinbruch, wobei der Weg entlang der Abbaukante immer enger zu einem Hohlweg wird, bis man vor dem felsumrandeten Märchensee steht. Wenn dann noch der Wind in den Bäumen rauscht ergibt sich eine faszinierende Atmosphäre. Letzteres gilt bei jedem Wetter. Der Weg führt direkt am See vorbei, und endet am Aussichtspunkt mit einer tollen Fernsicht über das Neckartal zur schwäbischen Alb. Sollte man mit Kinderwagen unterwegs sein, ist eine geländegängige Version zu empfehlen.See more..

Alles ist ordentlich beschriftet. Es gibt Ruhebänke. Wir finden ihn schöner als den am Schloss. Er liegt versteckt und doch zentral. Auch die Spaziergänge zu den umliegenden Orten Maulbronn, Ölbronn oder Knittlingen über die Wiesen oder durch den Wald bieten Erholung und Naturschönheit. Das Kloster in Maulbronn ist ein einmaliges Ensemble von historischen Gebäuden. In Knittlingen findet sich das Museum zu dem Leben und Wirken von Doktor Faust. In Ölbronn steht das Geburtshaus von Steinbeis, der ganz entscheidend war für die Wirtschaftsförderung in Württemberg. One of our lake visits including this one. Situated at the end of a beautiful housing estate, the lake is clear, warm in summer, a gradual incline into the water, shaded areas to sit. Not far is a shop with cold drinks, groceries etc. Roadside parking is limited to two hours within the fascility unless you're a blue badge holder (Germany still recogonises the BB since Brexit) then it's up to 24 hrs. No toilet fascilities but there is a bigger shopping centre nearby which offers fascilities. Safe for individuals, families etc.See more..

Afterwards we drove to Offenhausen to visit the source of the Lauteral which is enclosed within an old convent wall. Officially it was closed but we were able to walk in. You might want to combine this with a visit to the two nearby museums--also closed due to Covid 19.See more..
