A return to normal

After the tumult and trauma of the pandemic years, I think 2022 was really just about proving that travel is still possible. I returned to Lake Constance for the first time since the pandemic. I used to spend several months there every year and hope to resume that life in 2023. I found that very little had changed when I was there in the fall. In the small villages around this lake, life is still charming and devoid of the huge influx of foreign travelers that can make Europe feel crowded and inauthentic. A big plus was the incredible exchange rate for euros..

    Magical Lake Konstanz
    We did a cycling tour of the lake. 165 miles starting and ending from Konstanz over 6 days. What an amazing experience. Excellent cycle paths - good smooth surfaces, great signage and not too hilly! We did the tour through Radweig Reisen and were really impressed with their communication, their tour literature and excellent quality bikes. Everything ran like clock work. The lake itself was stunning and going by bike was incredible as we discovered places enroute that you would never normally see. We enjoyed the contrast in the landscape and cycled through fields, orchards, vineyards, villages and towns as well as some wonderful lakeside routes. A truely enchanting place.

    Walk from Meersburg to Hagnau
    Very nice walk from Meersburg via Haltnau (the restaurant was not yet open but the terrace looked very nice) to Hagnau, nice path along the lake. Later took one of the ferries back to Meersburg, they operate as pat of public transport, very regular services on different routes and low fares. You can cross the lake using them.
