4.5Public Library Stuttgart(598 reviews) - Beautiful Building with a FREE audio guide!! Libraries
Recently, a friend and I visited the Stuttgart Public Library in downtown Stuttgart. Upon arrival, go to the information desk and ask for a FREE audio guide. You will be required to leave 5 Euro for a deposit but get the money back at return. The audio guide is terrific and has a couple of different tracks to follow and listen to. One is about the Architecture of the building and the other is on the Services of the Library. You can listen to either or both of them! Great rainy day activity. Enjoy!See more..
We were planning to visit old town Heidelberg and were directed by our GPS to an underground parking garage after we visited the Heidelberg Castle. When we went up to the ground level, I was surprised to find that I was parked below the University Library. As a book lover, my instinct urged me to go in for a visit. The library entrance was filled with smokers which may be a deterrent to smoke allergic visitors but I sped through the "heavy" layer of smokes and went in anyway. There was a free exhibit of old records and manuscripts about history of Germany and the city on the 1/F (Sorry, I don't understand Germans but that was my guess from pictures and exhibit descriptions). What interested me most was an exhibit of ancient Bibles from the 14th century. The books are so beautifully written in latin and "crafted' like a piece of artwork. This place is worth visiting as an off road trip on your way to the Old City.See more..
A phenomenal construct of glass and steel it stands out as an ultra modern addition to the University. It provides numerous services for a large group of users. With overruns in both completion date and building budget, it finally opened its doors in 2015.See more..
The most beautiful of the libraries I saw in Upper Swabia. Light flooding in through the windows, a sky-blue and pink and gold heaven in the ceiling above, white marble statues, blue and white trompe l'oeil bookcases, rose columns, touches of gold... No crowds, because it isn't so well known. There's a ticket desk and shop downstairs, where you can pick up a information sheet in English.See more..
The shape of this library is really unique so you can easily spot it. You don't need any membership card. Very quiet and have plenty of tables with view of the city! There are different floor for children books. Perfect for study or working. Close at 8 PM and on Sunday.See more..
4.5Rokokobibliothek St. Peter(14 reviews) - Well worth a visit when in the area Wednesday: Spent 1-2 hours Libraries
We took a guided a tour on a Sunday morning and were very lucky with an elderly gentleman explaining a lot about the church, the monastery, the library and history of the area in general. The guided tour takes a good hour, costs 6 euros a person and can be recommended.See more..
4.5Stadtbucherei(5 reviews) - Public Library in the old Granary (Kornhaus) Spent 1-2 hours Libraries
The public library of Ravensburg is located in the old “Kornhaus” or: granary. As the name suggests, the building was used as storage and trading place for corn (crops) for almost 500 years, until the beginning of the 20th century. It has been completely renovated and modernized before turning it into the public library. The most interesting part for a traveller that visits the place is not the books, but the interior look. As beautiful it may be already from the outside, I found the interior look even more impressive. The architects did a really good job by preserving the historical layout. On 4 floors you will be amazed by the massive wooden beams the whole building rests on. They really show its age. There is a small reading corner with all the latest magazines (German only) to read (not to take away!) for free. And there is a coffee vending machine where you can buy hot beverages for 1 Euro or less. It makes for a great and inexpensive rest area during a walking tour of Ravensburg. Free WiFi and free restrooms (on the second floor) are available. Like any other public library in Germany, it is closed on Mondays.See more..
See more..

See more..
See more..
