    Fernsehturm Stuttgart image
The world's very first television tower is to be found in Stuttgart. For more than 60 years now the 217-metre-high tower has defied wind and weather. When building commenced, many of Stuttgart's inhabitants were doubtful as to whether the first ever tower to be constructed from reinforced concrete would hold. After a construction period lasting 20 months, the Stuttgart Television Tower was inaugurated on 5th February 1956. It became a prototype that was imitated and refined all over the world – from Frankfurt and Dortmund to Johannesburg and Wuhan in China. See more..
  2. 4.5 Hasenhorn Coaster Todtnau (507 reviews)
    - 10 minute ride for 10 euros
Friday: 9:30 AM - 4:30 PM Observation Decks & Towers
    Hasenhorn Coaster Todtnau image
Absolutely worth it! For 10 euro's you can buy a ticket for the chairlift up and the Rodelbahn down. The ride up offers a nice view over Todtnau, the black forrest and the coaster which is waiting for you. The coaster and cart are firmly built and very safe with seatbelts and automatic breaks when you get to close to the slower one ahead of you. Strava told me that the coaster was 2,8km long and it was a 10 minute ride which includes a photo section. When you visit in the morning shortly after opening you have a short waiting line. In the afternoon the waiting lines are much longer, up to 45 minutes. Still totally worth it! See more..
  3. 4.5 Heiligenberg (335 reviews)
    - One of the most beautiful places Ive seen
Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Historic Sites • Observation Decks & Towers
    Heiligenberg image
Surprising to me, this is one of the prettiest cities Ive ever visited, it is the epitomy of "quaint" it looks like something out of a German movie set. A quiet lazy river runs right through the center of Heildelberg, and the cities rises up on each side of the river creating a steep valley to the center of town. There was some cute shopping not too touristy though, some very good pubs with above averagetypical pub fare. The poeople were very friendly and the city is so clean and safe. Dont for get to visit the castle! See more..

    - Spectactularly scenic surprise
    Friday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Architectural Buildings • Observation Decks & Towers
    Thyssen-Krupp-Aufzugstestturm image
The Thyssen-Krupp-Aufzugstestturm - a lift test tower - arises from the German countryside outside Rottweil like a huge screw emerging from the earth. The building houses a number of lift shafts that are used to test lift technology and includes a viewing platform which is @ 220m up. Very modest cost to enter and the views are amazing. Unusual external design is to manage winds around the building and gives it s avery unique appearance. Easily accessed off the autobahn south of Stuttgart and well worth a visit. See more..

  6. 4.0 Lotharpfad (92 reviews)
    - The power of nature is unfathomable
Spent 1-2 hours Observation Decks & Towers
    Lotharpfad image
We heard about the storm and as we were in the Black Forest, it seemed only natural to view first hand the powers of nature. We were astonished to find the amount of destruction caused by the storm in 1999 in the once fully fledged forest. The storm flattened everything it swept across, toppling small tress and giant one. So sad to see a large tree, roots pointing upwards to the sky. The area has been made accessible to the public in a very clever, natural and aesthetic manner by the authorities. There are small bridges, paths, steps, maps, land lookout posts-all constructed out of...wood of course. Trails guides stating distances along trails from short walks to longer. We were very impressed. Impressive too is the way nature is reliving and overcoming the disaster by the natural process of self renewal. VERY MUCH RECOMMENDED. See more..

    Ellbachsee Aussichtsplattform image
Top viewpoint of our trip and we were lucky to have the place to ourselves. Park at kniebishutte, go to the loo there, grab a map from the information centre and then head to the platform. It’s a short walk to the platform and the view is gorgeous. You overlook Ellbachsee lake. We walked down to it - about an hour very steep and uneven path or you can take the longer smooth road. It was a fun walk. We had a picnic by the lake and then the steep descent to the car. It was hard work but was only about 4o mins. Well worth it See more..

    Observation Decks & Towers
    Mettnau-Turm image
The walk to the Mettnau-Turm takes you by Lake Constance, by houses and through the forest. When I walked here it wasn't as touristy as the town even tough it isn't far from the city center. While walking you don't get the feeling that you are on a peninsula, so when you go up the tower, the view offers a great overview of the area. The natural reserve and lake Constance just look stunning. See more..

This tower, together with the Rhine Gate Tower and another one, are the 3 medieval defense tower that were preserved in Konstanz. This one was built in 1321 and it was used as a towns´s prison, specially after the Council of Konstanz has finished, when the King imprisoned many people here in order to have them paying to be released and pay his debts with that money. A place full of history, nice to visit with a nice walk along the river Rhine. See more..
  11. 4.5 Stoecklewaldturm (35 reviews)
    - Wide forest view, lovely walks to and from it.
Spent 2-3 hours Observation Decks & Towers
    Stoecklewaldturm image
Stöcklewaldturm is located between Furtwangen, St Georgen and Schönwald, in the forest. The tower rises above the trees, and gives you a wide view over the surrounding area, mostly forest. Miles and miles of forested ridges, with some patches of open land in between. You can also spot some of the surrounding villages. It costs 1 Euro to mount the tower, and it is worth paying that. There is a mountain Gasthof attached to the tower, with a somewhat limited, but welcome, selection of food. There are benches and tables outside if you prefer to have your lunch out of doors. It seems to be popular with walkers and cyclists. There is actually a road so that you can drive there also. It's an obvious goal for walks. For example from Schönwald, about 7 km away. There are several ways to walk to Schönwald, making a nice roundtrip possible. The walk past neighbouring Hubertuskapelle and the Gutach source, through the Gutach valley, to Schönwald is lovely, through meadows, and past some typical Schwarzwald farms. See more..

    Kinzelmann-Turm image
Today the weather forecast promised a sunny day and so I got up early to see the sunrise from the top of Kinzelmann tower. Well, I was too late to see the sun come up on the horizon, but I still had a beautiful early morning experience. It is not the big sensation, but a nice pass time on a sunny day The tower is located on the “Schiller-Höhe”, a hill to the west of the town center of Bad Saulgau, dedicated to the great German poet Friedrich Schiller (Ode an die Freude). The Kinzelmann tower was built recently, in 2016 and there are no signs yet, telling you where it is until you stand in front of it. It is 25 meters high. If you come from the town center, take the staircase that begins next to the level crossing on Schillerstrasse. Follow the red and white sign that says: “Thermalbad”. No car parking available here! Or drive to the parking lot next to “Schiller Garten”, a café and restaurant on the other end of the “Schiller-Höhe”. From there you can see the tower 100 meters away. Next to the parking lot is a playground for children. That means the Schiller-Höhe has it all for a nice and inexpensive family time afternoon: Have a minute of culture at the Schiller memorial, a tower climb with a great view, play-time for kids plus food at the Cafe Schillergarten. Gigelturm image
On the top of the Gigelberg hill, as part of the old remains of the fortification wall, resides the Gigel tower (“Gigelturm”). It is located just 100 meters from the White Tower (“Weisser Turm”). It is an ideal destination of a round tour from the city center. On your way to the White Tower you can cross the beautiful Weberberg district, which ends near the White Tower. From there you walk up the gentle slope and cross the moat (“Hirschgraben”) via the bridge. After entering the gate you are standing in the middle of the two towers, on a viewpoint or lookout called “Schillerhöhe”, with the historic city center and the Weberberg district at your feet. Here the White Tower is on your right and Gigel Tower on your left. Now you can choose from two ways down, back into the city center. Note that the top of the “Gigelturm” can be visited only as part of a guided tour. See more..
