Ludwigsburg Palace is one of the most expansive and impressive Baroque palaces in Germany. Duke Eberhard Ludwig of Wurttemberg had initially planned it as a hunting lodge in 1704. But his plans changed and a diverse complex was erected until 1733. The former hunting lodge became the principal residence. His successores, Duke Carl Eugen and the first King of Wurttemberg, Friedrich I, used it as a summer residence. They had numerous rooms in the interior remodeled. During a guided tour through the palace, visitors are able to discover the Baroque- , the Rokoko- and the Neoclassical style. In addition to the Palace Museum, visitors are also able to visit the apartment of Duke Carl Eugen, the Baroque Gallery, the Fashion Museum, the Ceramics Museum and the Theatre Museum. This is an interesting place for the aviation enthusiast and layperson alike. There is an excellent cafe/restaurant on site. It is worth noting that this museum is easily reached by bus from either Friedrichshafen Stadt or Friedrichshafen Hafen bus stations (outside the railway stations) even though the mueum web site does not mention this. The museum relates Claude Dornier's story and innovations whilst with Zeppelin and later on his own through an eclectic mix of artefacts, photos, interactive displays and text. For me in general, entire Tübingen looks and feels like being in a fairytale. Holderlin's Tower is a small musem, but really nice with a piano inside and nice art works. It offers beautiful views to the river and the Neckar Island. And this house itself looks so charming, it is one of the most beautiful houses in town. Friedrich Ebert was Germany's first elected president. There could not have been a worse time to be elected president of Germany: immediately after World War 1. This museum traces his life and career and that of Germany from the late 19th century to his death in 1925 with reference to what came after. English speakers can get a free-of-charge device which explains the displays in numbered order. Of course, the story is a depressing one and we, in the 21st cent. know that it gets worse after 1925. One feature is on political assassinations of that time. To protect himself, Ebert got a sword stick, which is on display - who was he kidding??? This display is time consuming but a very good investment in time reviewing an important period in German and world history.See more..

As soon as you enter, it becomes clear that history is alive in the school museum, which is located directly at the end of the waterfront promenade opposite the Graf Zeppelin House. Went here as near to our camp site and it was a fantastic outing, well connected by cycle paths. Good value toi explore the caves, with audio descriptions in a number of lanuages. very cool which was great as it was a hot day. Took children aged 3, 7, and 9 and they all managed fine, helped the little one as some steps and ladders are very steep. Great cafe for before and after snacks and drinks. First and foremost, as you are looking at these reviews for Museum LA8, you need to understand that the content of the museum rotates. For our visit, it was the Museum for Art and Technology of the 1900s. While we enjoyed a good portion of the subject matter, we found that the museum was poorly laid out and is truly intended for native German speakers. The audio guide is available in English, but if you require English you will miss out on most all of the non-audio guide exhibits. As for the audio guide, there was lots of good information, but things were not laid out in sequence (e.g. stop 1 through stop 15). Instead things jumped all around and the markings for audio information were rather small (you needed to search for them). And since they were not in sequence, you never knew if you had missed something. We're glad we did it (only 7 Euro/person) and certainly learned, but likely would not return.See more..

It started 800 years ago, but most people flew in the 17th and in the 19th century to Hungary, Rumania and Russia to settle on fertile lands and recreate their peasant society. Diverse ethnic groups from different parts of Germany established prosperous communities. But their lives were destroyed by the craziness of Hitler, when he wanted to expand the Reich by force, killing millions of people, and the German communities were expelled from their homes after the war. It is very important to notice that after the war 15 million refugees (German speaking) arrived and were not welcome, as the whole country lay in shambles. Not matter what you interest, this place has it in technology - Aircraft, ships, submarines, motor vehicles space craft etc. You will find it all in this amazing museum. Set aside a full day or if you are the type that truly wants to immerse yourself in all the exhibits maybe 2 days or more. This museum is small but amazing! I think it's only open on Sundays...but basically when they attemped to euilxcavate the ground in this area in the 1970's to build a new building, they discovered the remains of an ancient Roman city on site! The Pforzheim region is full of Roman settlements and history, although it can be hard to find information on sites to visit. This museum has information available if interested. This museum allows one to walk through the remnants of the old city, a couple of meters below our current ground-level, and is fairly unknown, even among locals!
