The Museum celebrates the automobile invented by Carl Benz in 1886: it relates its history and tells its stories, bringing both alive by placing them in the context of technology, day-to-day life, social history and popular culture. More than 160 vehicles of all types are the main protagonists. They range from some of the oldest automobiles ever built to legendary racing cars and futuristic research vehicles. Together with other exhibits, they form the centrepiece of the permanent exhibition covering a total of 16,500 square metres in twelve rooms. - Big, bold and beautiful
Friday: 9:00 AM - 4:45 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings • Churches & Cathedrals
    Ulmer Muenster image
The cathedral juts out of a WW2 US Army Air Force blasted desolate surrounding, almost like an oasis in the desert. As soon as I walked inside the massive space, you can feel the cold and very musty smell, telling you all you need to know about the age and grand structure you find yourself in. From the reconstructed lead light windows to the hand chiselled pink and beige stone floors, this is something to behold in a somewhat sleepy and forgotten city, that is Ulm. Certainly worth a visit for this grand daddy, that still ranks as the tallest religious building in the world. See more..

When building commenced, many of Stuttgart's inhabitants were doubtful as to whether the first ever tower to be constructed from reinforced concrete would hold. After a construction period lasting 20 months, the Stuttgart Television Tower was inaugurated on 5th February 1956. It became a prototype that was imitated and refined all over the world – from Frankfurt and Dortmund to Johannesburg and Wuhan in China. See more..

Ludwigsburg Palace is one of the most expansive and impressive Baroque palaces in Germany. Duke Eberhard Ludwig of Wurttemberg had initially planned it as a hunting lodge in 1704. But his plans changed and a diverse complex was erected until 1733. The former hunting lodge became the principal residence. His successores, Duke Carl Eugen and the first King of Wurttemberg, Friedrich I, used it as a summer residence. They had numerous rooms in the interior remodeled. During a guided tour through the palace, visitors are able to discover the Baroque- , the Rokoko- and the Neoclassical style. In addition to the Palace Museum, visitors are also able to visit the apartment of Duke Carl Eugen, the Baroque Gallery, the Fashion Museum, the Ceramics Museum and the Theatre Museum. The palace is sourrounded by beautiful gardens, the so called "Blühendes Barock". Please notice: the Blühendes Barock is run by an own company and does not belong to the palace. See more..

    Konstanzer Münster image
The Munster in the heart of the town is full of history and has many details, sculptures and paintings. If you are here for a moment, go to the crypt. Here are paintings on the ceiling but above all several large gold medaillons of saints, the eagle of St.John and Jesus Chirst, dating to the 11th century and stylistically akin to the famous manuscripts of this area, They shine like a vision in the rather dark crypt. Nice place to go with the kids, there is a park around and people can sit there with a nice view of the town and enjoy drinks or a picnic. The place is accessible by car or with a small funicular, you can also go over the stairs but I think it is a bit too hard. The view from the tower is impressing, it is for free to go to the top. Negative point: the stairs are too narrow and I felt a bit dizzy. See more..

  30. 4.0 Martinstor (230 reviews)
    - Esteemed from the 13th century
Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
    Martinstor image
In the late 18th century certain interests deemed this grand tower an obstacle to evolving transport routes and wanted to demolish it. Fortunately they were persuaded otherwise by a wise Mayor and it continues to be gloriously extant, A busy tram line now runs through the central opening that was widened by the above mentioned Mayor, as part of his campaign for its preservation. One of five defensive towers in the city wall, it played a key role in warding off attackers. Gorgeous dark and light stonework is admirable. On one side a plaque with a double-headed eagle is enshrined. On the reverse an ornate rectangle has elaborate script. Clocks with golden hands and hours are towards the top on two faces. See more..

    Rubble Hill image
Interesting bit of history. This is the highest point in the Stuttgart area (511m) and gives great panoramic views of the surrounding area. We walked up on a nice day in August. Park across the street and it a short walk up the hill to the top. Loved the views and the history (although we couldn't read the German historical markers attesting to the significance of the place. Here are some directions from the Böblingen side of town: Ttake the A831 toward Stuttgart for nearly a kilometer and continue onto B14 for three kilometers. Continue onto Wildparkstraße for one and a half kilometers. And continue onto Rotenwaldstraße for a kilometer. A parking lot sits between where the road splits into Rotenwaldstrasse and Geisseichstrasse. Walk across Geisseichstrasse and you will be at the base of the hill. It’s only a short walk up the path that winds around the hill and leads you to the summit. See more..

A lot of thought went into this presentation of ancient Roman baths in Badweiler. The engineers that built it were extremely talented. The renderings in the videos near the entrance of the city that was also here are truly remarkable. Watch out for children interrupting the video by poking the control buttons (what is it with kids wanting to push any button they find - or their parents not controlling them properly?) See more..

    Hohentwiel Fortress Ruins image
A long walk from Singen town centre, then a steep walk up, then a further steep walk up the cobblestone path once inside the castle. Great 360° views from the top and some steep drops too. I used the free Android App for the castle and this explained what each part of the castle was -- it was often not clear from the remaining walls what used to be here. I continued walking north after visiting the castle and passed another smaller ruined hilltop castle (Hohenkrähen) after about an hour's walk. See more..

Founded in 1183-1184, Bebenhausen Monastery is nestled in the gently rolling hills of the Schonbuch Nature Reserve. - Great view
Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Castles
    Burg Badenweiler image
The ruins of the Burg Baden sitting on top of a bare rock is a landmark of Badenweiler, a beacon you can see from afar, and it looks like something out of Grimms' Fairytales. The external walls are well preserved and you can explore inside on the ground floor, but there's not too much to see actually. nevertheless it's worth the five-minute walk up a maintained trail from the city park, since the view from the platform outside the castle rujins is spectacular. On a bright day you can see across the Rhine Valley and as far as the Vosges Mountains across the Rhine River in France, a view framed by the wooden hillsides and vineyards of the Black Forest Mountains between which the small valley Badenweiler sits in is nestled. A special occasion is the big party always celebrated at the ruins on 'Walpurgis Night' from April 30th to May 1st - a traditional spring festival observed in Central and Northern Europe - the night when the witches are out to party and dance. See more..
  45. 4.5 Johanneskirche (129 reviews)
    - a beautiful, romantic, neo-Gothic church on the lake of fire
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Johanneskirche image
The Johanneskirche was built from 1864 to 1876 in the neo-Gothic style. The church with the choir is striking on a peninsula in the lake of fire. A great sight, already from the outside. No matter whether during the day or at night when the church is illuminated. Unfortunately, there are more markets on the peninsula, so sometimes a picture is difficult. In addition, the church is often closed so that it can only be viewed from the outside. You may better look for the open times. After the war was destroyed in the Second World War, the church was externally rebuilt except for the tower helmet. The church tower was 20 meters higher before it was destroyed in the Second World War. The "Church without a top" is considered a memorial against war. And it is definitely worth a visit when you are in Stuttgart. See more..
