experimenta, Germany's largest science center, amazes visitors with an extraordinary variety of offerings and is an exceptional symbol of the joy of experimentation, of knowledge and innovation. In the Discovery Worlds, numerous interactive stations on four exhibition levels are sources of inspiration. The Science Dome is a unique combination of planetarium and theater, where you can travel virtually through space or experience fascinating laser shows or experiment demonstrations. A space station of a special kind is located on the rooftop terrace: the observatory with its powerful telescopes and four observatory stations. The Research Worlds in building e2 provide areas for a wide range of experiments. They include eight high-quality and fully equipped labs, a cooking lab and the Northern Württemberg Student Research Center. experimenta offerings are rounded off with the Maker Space as a platform for design and development and as a workshop for hands-on work. Like every action, perception or sensation, happiness is a result of certain processes in our body. At the BODY WORLDS Museum in Heidelberg, real human specimens called “Plastinates”, invite you to discover the secrets that hide beneath your skin. A great way to spend a rainy Sunday morning with a toddler in tow. The rooms with the various animals in it were the most exciting for her - plenty of sights AND smells! While the displays do give a nice amount of info, there doesn't seem to be a really cohesive narrative, nor go into depth. My biggest disappointment was that the minerals were grouped by colour - not by mineral group or in a scientific way. See more..
  5. 4.0 Donauschwäbisches Zentralmuseum (13 reviews)
    - History of migration and the fate of millions of refugees
Spent < 1 hour Speciality Museums • Science Museums • History Museums
    Donauschwäbisches Zentralmuseum image
This museum has a spacious location and presents the history of German (most rural) poor people going east and west to make a living away from misery in the homelands. It started 800 years ago, but most people flew in the 17th and in the 19th century to Hungary, Rumania and Russia to settle on fertile lands and recreate their peasant society. Diverse ethnic groups from different parts of Germany established prosperous communities. But their lives were destroyed by the craziness of Hitler, when he wanted to expand the Reich by force, killing millions of people, and the German communities were expelled from their homes after the war. It is very important to notice that after the war 15 million refugees (German speaking) arrived and were not welcome, as the whole country lay in shambles. But their work force helped to reconstruct the country and its economy. See more..
  6. 5.0 Deutsches Phonomuseum (12 reviews)
    - One way to get away from crowds in Schwarzwald
Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums • Science Museums
    Deutsches Phonomuseum image
A word about St Georgen first - it's a town mostly ignored by tourists, who mostly flock to the nearby Triberg or Hornberg. It's not covered with souvenir shop, but it's still a great place to spend a day if one is staying a longer time in the region. This museum is mostly dedicated to the history of recording sound, and clocks. Lots of interesting exhibits, with a good audio guide available in multiple languages. I personally loved the gramophones designed as Schwarzwald houses. We spend an hour and half there, we were the only people there. See more..

Some people (especially those with a mixed feelings towards religion, churches, Holy Books etc.) might shy away from an establishment wanting to present the Bible to a larger public, because you might suspects that it smells stuffy or wants to shove something down your throat. But here you would really miss out. The history, the "making of" and the core aspects of this book that has shaped so much of our culture is presented in a very interersting, interactive and refreshingly open and definitely non-fundamentalistic way that you come away much better educated and well-entertained (including children) ath the same time. A definite high recommendation! See more..

Interesting area which can be overlooked unless someone points out the crater rim on a short walk away. There was a little film shown .The collection of fossilised snails was fun and actually purchased some having seen the obsessive work done the evolution of the snail in the museum. Altogether a nice hour or so viewing fossils See more..

  11. 4.0 Elektronik Museum Tettnang (6 reviews)
    - Everybody will have a moment here!
    Spent 1-2 hours Science Museums
    Elektronik Museum Tettnang image
And I mean that moment of “OMG, I used to own one, exactly like this…!” The Electronic Museum in Tettnang offers a unique collection of electrical devices where each and every one of us finds at least one (or more) items you did own at some point in your life, no matter what age group you belong to. There is everything from an original gramophone to the infamous “Volksempfänger”, promoted by the Nazis. Apple computers through the years are on display as well as Nintendo and Atari video games. Around 350 exhibits are on display in a nice 1950s style surrounding. Old movie cameras, the famous Commodore C64, calculators from more than 30 years ago and and and…the list goes on and on. I promise you a very interesting visit that brings back long forgotten memories of your life. Whether you are are 80 or 20 years of age, you will enjoy the journey. Even if you are skeptical, give it a try anyway, it cannot be too bad – for just 3 Euro entrance fee you won’t even risk a lot on that! All the exhibits on display here are on permanent loan or were donated by private people over the course of many years. If you have an old electrical device you don’t need anymore, but that is too good to throw away, you can donate it here. I had a good time in this criminally underrated gem of a museum. See more..

My wife and I visited this place on a Sunday. It is the center which explains the area called a Geo Park southeast of Stuttgart. It was a former military range that is now an area focused on environmentalism and organic farming. The intro film is a little dated but it is available in English and really helps the visitor understand the area. See more..
