Konstanz really surprised me. It is a city which has all. Good climate, beautiful lake, mountains in the distance, lots of history and nationalities, good restaurants and bars and the old town is in the middle of all. Quite some parts are car free luckily. It contains cosy small streets with beautiful buildings and large squares and boulevard streets which are alive. Everything is well maintained and perfect to do on foot because it isn't very big. It is really worth the time to take a couple of hours and stroll through the old town. Most restaurants and night life are also located here. Trough an underground passage at the station you can easily walk to the dock and the Constanz Lake.See more..

The Lower Gate Tower, or “Untertorturm“ in German, is the oldest building in Markdorf. It used to be the main entrance to the town when coming from the west. Some sources call it “West-Gate”. It is integrated into the neighbouring houses and buildings with the old bishop’s castle (“Bischofsschloss”) on one side and beautiful half-timbered houses on the other, making it a small but fine skyline to look at. There is a beautiful painting of the Coat-of-Arms of the lords and rulers of Markdorf between 1236 and 1803 on the wall inside the gateway. Inside the structure is a restaurant with a rustic interior. They use the gateway as outdoor seating The town centre is small enough to combine a walk to the Lower Gate Tower with the nearby Hexenturm (“Witches Tower), the Nikolaus church, Bishop’s castle, and the beautiful Upper Gate (“Obertor”) within one nice afternoon stroll.See more..
