We are a family run distillery and winery in Gengenbach - Strohbach in the middle of the black forest surrounded by some lovely orchards. We produce a wide range of traditional blackforest fruits spirits and liqueurs for which we also grow our own fruits. Additionally, we produce our own Gin, Whisky, Vodka and even a Rum. We visited this winery based on a recommendation in the Black Forest Guide. Even thought the tour was in German, the guide was kind enough to provide a brief English translation which was deeply appreciated!! Tour included a trip deep down in the vaults were the wine is stored in wooded barrels in order to develop their unique flavor. Well worth the small fee!!See more..

A co-worker told us about this modern-yet-traditional distillery in Kappelrodeck, a small town not in the guidebooks, yet close to the Schwarzwald National Park. We were not disappointed. Though the distillery looks fairly traditional from the outside, the tasting room feels like a jewelry store, and the schnapps (brandy) lives up to its presentation. They make a very wide range of schnapps from local fruits - the town is surrounded by vineyards and orchards. They range from very dry (my favorite) to sweet liqueurs. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, letting us taste whatever we wanted. We brought a few bottles home with us. The prices felt low, considering the quality of the schnapps.
