  11. 5.0 Smith College (66 reviews)
    - Loved everything about my Smith visit
    Universities & Schools
    Smith College image
I visited a friend in 2010. Loved the atmosphere of the school and its college town. I got a chance to sneaked in a math class and a landscape studies class since the classes were a bit on the bigger size (40+ I think?). The campus felt really nice. The 2 dining halls that I had a chance to dine at both had great food and offered a decent variety of options (though, according to my friend, the opinion I held could be because of this "grass is greener", "your school's dining halls have better food than my school's" syndrome haha). Really nice dorms (or at least the one where my friend was living). And the Smithies I interacted with were all super lovely, intellectual, and hip! Definitely the kind of folks I'd love to talk to and learn from! See more..

    Pioneer Valley Food Tours image
I can’t begin to say how lovely our tour was. Deb took us to places we would have never gone too. She was a wealth of knowledge, whether about farming in the area, history or the building we were going into or the proprietor of the shops we visited. It was enlightening and delicious. We are local to western Mass so Northampton isn’t a place we had never been. We were all three delighted and recommend this culinary walking tour (or any Deborah might do) to anyone looking for a nice afternoon trying new places!! I gave this as a gift to my two friends and we made some great memories! Looking forward to whatever Deborah organizes next. See more..

  17. 5.0 Mount Holyoke College (58 reviews)
    - I heart Mount Holyoke
    Educational sites
    Mount Holyoke College image
I love Mount Holyoke! It is the prettiest place in New England in the fall, even if you don't go to school there. The atmosphere is safe, friendly and liberating and I've never been anywhere else like it. Stuff to do there? The greenhouse is easy to breeze by but it's one of the coolest parts of the campus - there's even small jungle room. The art museum always puts on a good show and contains the perfect amount of stuff to see in an afternoon. There's a gravel path that loops upper lake for a scenic not-so-challenging hike, and if you're into horses you should check out the equestrian center, apparently it's one of the best ones in the Northeast. The library looks like a wing of Hogwarts on the inside and has a great coffee shop in the lobby, And check out Kendade, the new green science building, it's pretty spacey. Also the campus center always has student-oriented stuff going on on Friday and Saturday nights. Good times! See more..

In every season, this trail is a wonderful place. It can get busy on sunny weekends in summer and fall. For more peaceful experiences, choose early mornings or winter days. The trail goes past some residential areas, yet it still feels like a park. The prime section of the trail is the 2.5-mile stretch between Rt. 113 in Pepperell and Sand Hill Road in Groton (Massachusetts). There are no road crossings in that stretch, the Nashua River is at its loveliest, and there's an ice cream stand on summer weekends at the Pepperell end. See more..

  34. 5.0 Wasik's Cheese Shop (41 reviews)
    - Best Cheese Store in the Northeast USA
    Speciality & Gift Shops
    Wasik's Cheese Shop image
Remarkable cheese shop. One of the best selections of cheese in the Northeast USA. Indeed, the best shop I have been to in my life, including a fabulous store I used to frequent in the two years I worked on the Upper East Side of New York City. This is a family business, and the Wasik family are, in addition to having phenomenal knowledge about cheese, the most pleasant people whom I have ever met. The personal service is truly old world. They have a limited number of wines with which they will help you pair the cheese. Their selection is outstanding although this tends to be high end wine and pricey. The are very knowledgeable about the pairing, Do not hesitate to ask for help. In summary, if you love cheese, it is worth the trip from Boston to Wellesley. There is not much else to do in Wellesley except to see the college (which is currently closed due to COVID-19) but you could buy yourself a wonderful lunch to take to the beach! See more..

    Historic Sites
    Lowell's Boat Shop image
A NATIONAL LANDMARK & WORKING MUSEUM. Dedicated to preserving and perpetuating the art and craft of wooden boat building. We offer classes, exhibits, tours, repairs, boat building and more.Established in 1793, Lowell's Boat Shop is the oldest continuously operating boat shop in the United States and is cited as the birthplace of the legendary fishing dory. Lowell’s is the only remaining survivor of the area’s world-renowned dory manufacturing industry that produced in excess of a quarter of a million dories over a period of two centuries. Building more than 2000 boats in 1911, this business was one of the first in the Nation to employ a seminal form of assembly line manufacturing. With the founding of his company, Simeon Lowell made radical innovations to traditional boat design. Known for their efficiency, durability and sea worthiness, Lowell dories became the heart and soul of the Gloucester fishing fleet. In the waning days of the great fishing industry, recreational boaters turned to Lowell dories for the same qualities that attracted the fishermen. Rowing clubs, hunting camps, the Boy and Girl Scouts and the Lifesaving Service all sought Lowell dories and skiffs for their maritime experiences.Conveyed through seven generations of the Lowell family, Lowell’s Boat Shop was passed to the Odell family in the 1980’s and then to the Newburyport Maritime Society in the 1990’s. In 2006, Lowell’s was purchased by Lowell’s Maritime Foundation, an independent non-profit group with the mission of leading this National Landmark and Working Museum through its third century of wooden boat building. We urge you to Experience the Lowell Tradition by being a part of the continuing history of America’s oldest working boat shop. Berkshire Brewing Company image
We took the 40 minute jaunt with friends and pups to BBC. Have always been a fan of their dark beers but had never been to their taproom. Within seconds of stepping into the taproom, we were welcomed warmly and our greyhounds had water and treats given to them. Wow! How is that for service. We immediately felt part of the BBC family. We sat with friends and we each had a flight. So 16 different beers were had, and there were still another 16 or so to try. Let me state, although we like some more than others due to our taste, each beer is an easy drinking, delicious beer. Our thanks go out to Sean and Theresa who bent over backwards to accommodate us and our two greyhounds. We will be back again, and again, and again. Did I mention their beer is phenomenal? LOL See more..
