Loved everything about my Smith visit

I visited a friend in 2010. Loved the atmosphere of the school and its college town. I got a chance to sneaked in a math class and a landscape studies class since the classes were a bit on the bigger size (40+ I think?). The campus felt really nice. The 2 dining halls that I had a chance to dine at both had great food and offered a decent variety of options (though, according to my friend, the opinion I held could be because of this "grass is greener", "your school's dining halls have better food than my school's" syndrome haha). Really nice dorms (or at least the one where my friend was living). And the Smithies I interacted with were all super lovely, intellectual, and hip! Definitely the kind of folks I'd love to talk to and learn from!

    Beautiful Place to Stroll
I enjoy visiting college campuses throughout the United States and consider Smith to have one of the most attractive that I have seen. Its walkways, open spaces, and wooded areas with views toward Paradise Lake were designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, father of American landscape architecture and co-designer of New York City's Central Park. I find the landscape, even with later changes, to be cohesive and stunning. The architecture, however, is more eclectic, reflecting trends in building design since Smith opened in 1875. Construction materials for various structures include red brick, wood and raw quarry stone. Despite the differences in look, everything works well together and I have seen nothing that I think is jarring. Smith's 147 acres hold a botanic garden and a conservatory that add to the pleasure of strolling here. Many of the plants and trees are labeled throughout the campus. Smith also has an art museum (admission fee) with a fine collection. The college itself has an excellent reputation beyond its beautiful campus and has high admission standards.. Smith is the largest of the Seven Sisters, a loose association of seven liberal arts colleges in the Northeast that began as women's colleges. Today, Smith's undergraduates are women but those enrolled for work beyond the bachelor's degree include men. When visiting Smith, just west of Northampton's Main Street, I have always found free parking along Elm Street next to campus. My visits have only occurred on weekends.

    Lovely New England campus
The Smith College campus is a bit spread out, as the college grew over the years, and the modern facilities are impressive. I still like to visit the old quad area between Wilson and Emerson House. Smith is the largest of the Seven Sisters campuses. The undergraduate programs are still only open to female students, while the graduate programs are coed.
