  1. 5.0 Anan Creek Bear Observatory (237 reviews)
    - Anan with Alaska Vistas from Wrangell
    Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Anan Creek Bear Observatory image
I visited Anan with Alaska Vistas on August 9, 2021. It was an all day trip with Sylvia captaining the boat, and Robert and Bruce guiding the group up to the viewing area. Everyone was extremely professional and wonderfully attentive. Sylvia is a wealth of knowledge about the area and her tour stops at multiple places on the way down to Anan to see other wildlife, pictographs, ancient fishing traps, the geology of the area, and anything else people may be interested in. She doesn’t just run you down and back to Anan. Once at Anan, we were able to stay the full amount of time allotted for the day and spent hour and hours with the bears, eagles, ravens, and thousands of salmon. The guides pointed out the wildlife, talked about the vegetation of the region, and were very pleasant. I can’t say enough about how wonderful Alaska Vistas was and I’d recommend a trip with them to anyone who asked. See more..

Alaska Vista is very well run business, catering to all a client's needs. The team makes you feel like family. They picked us up at the airport, whisked us away to our glacier tour (which was fabulous), and dropped us off at our airbnb on the first day. The next day we meet the tour for the Anan bear viewing. Robert, our guide, is extremely knowledgeable about native and animal usage of plants, bear etiquette and allowed us to snap pics til our heart was content. And it was. He's a great photographer as well. Sylvia, our captain for both days was a kick, knowledgeable, gracious and kept us laughing. The two days we spent with Alaska Vista were the highlights of our trip. They even gave us a ride to the airport the next day. I can't recommend this group more. I will be giving out their card to everyone that I know. See more..
  4. 5.0 Alaska River Adventures - Day Tours (222 reviews)
    - Amazing adventure!
Monday: 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM River Rafting & Tubing • Fishing Charters & Tours • Hiking & Camping Tours
Alaska River Adventures - Day Tours image
We did the full day rafting and gold panning adventure. And this was an ADVENTURE — the raft dropped us and a guide off on a little island where we hiked on a thickly wooded moose trail and forded a creek (they give you waders!) to get to the gold panning site. And this is no touristy little gold panning — it’s hard work and the real deal! Our guide, Mike, was so knowledgeable and fun. My kids (10, 12, and 14) had a blast. The river float was also beautiful, the scenery is unreal and our rafting guide Tom was so knowledgeable and patient. My one caveat would be that although the website makes this sound like a low-key outing, the gold panning portion is actually quite physically demanding, so I would not recommend it for very young kids or people who don’t have a basic level of physical fitness. That said, we are no backwoodsmen — just some regular suburbanites — and we had the time of our lives! See more..

My favorite part was truly the entire experience! Walking on Root Glacier was something that will stand out in my memories for the rest of my life! The weather was difficult, 40 degrees with a hard frigid driving rain but our guide expertly kept us safe and having tons of fun on the ice. I felt like the pace was perfect. I also enjoyed listening to her narration and actually understanding the glacier rather than just looking at the glacier! My guide even gave me a ride back to McCarthy when the tour was over! She didn’t have to do that! It was above and beyond her duties and I am grateful for her actions!! Overall, a splendid experience. I have been on tours all over the world. I have also been to 60 of the 63 US National Parks. This experience goes right to the very top in all of my life! Thank you! See more..

  7. 5.0 Harding Ice Field Trail (198 reviews)
    - Great hiking experience in rain
    Hiking Trails
    Harding Ice Field Trail image
We were worried about the hiking plan on 7/7/2022 due to the rain forecast (98-99%) the whole day. Finally we decided to take a shot. It turned out that the hiking experience was amazing. First, the rain was not heavy, mostly drizzling. My jeans was not soaked. Most of the hiking was in the woods which reduced the wetness significantly. The raining was constant during the hiking but it didn’t bother at all. Secondly, the hiking was not tiresome due to the cool weather. Last but not least, mosquitoes were at rest in the rain weather so the whole hiking was bug free. We were so happy to take this chance. If anyone is worrying about the rain in this hiking trail please sit back and relax. Raining day (if not too heavy) is the best friend for this hiking experience. We walked to the cliffs (the second stop of the trail) and the view was absolutely amazing. You don’t want to miss it! See more..

Adam is not just guiding you to fish, he takes you on an adventure! From having all the gear you need, to making sure you are comfortable with it, he is awesome! The above mentored gear, by the way, is top notch and well maintained, ensuring you stay dry and comfortable, and ready to catch fish. We caught Rainbow trout, Dolly Varden and Salmon, and saw a variety of wildlife. Even if handling fish is not your thing, he will help you get a picture showing your catch, so you can relive that awesome moment with friends at home. Amazing scenery, coupled with his intimate knowledge of the river, made it a great part of a one in a lifetime trip, I would definitely recommend booking a trip with 5 Dogs! See more..

  11. 5.0 Breakaway Adventures Day Tours (185 reviews)
    - Great trip up the Stakine River
Taxis & Shuttles • Boat Tours • Sightseeing Tours • Boat Rentals • Kayaking & Canoeing
    Breakaway Adventures Day Tours image
The tour was all that we had hoped for. Eric, our guide has a wealth of experience and we explored several areas off the main tour course on the way to the lake and glacier. The tour is 4 hours and Eric timed it perfectly. We also needed to move up the standard departure time by 30 minutes in order to be sure to get back to our cruise ship on time and that was no problem. The tour was considerably less expensive than those booked through the cruise ship, but comparing the experience with passengers that booked through the ship, we definitely had an equivalent experience. I would definitely use Breakaway if we ever return to Wrangell and highly recommend them. See more..

My family has been visiting the town of Cooper Landing for many years and we always book at least one evening fishing trip for when we are there! John and Heather both do a great job making us feel welcome. John is very knowledgeable and loves to share stories, answer any questions, and help you catch as many fish as possible! John knows all of the hot spots and was able to get a limit of salmon for me and my wife even when we were there more than a week before "prime" fishing! We will definitely be going back. The rest of the town is great too. Lots of fun and friendly people, great food and drinks at any of the restaurants and bars in the area. The views never get old! See more..

  15. 5.0 Kingfisher Aviation (175 reviews)
    - Great Bear Viewing in Kodiak Island!
Nature & Wildlife Tours • Air Tours
    Kingfisher Aviation image
My wife and I came to Kodiak Island specifically to see the bears, and Kingfisher delivered beyond our greatest expectations! Kyle was an excellent pilot and guide, and we were fortunate to have a gentle day with warm weather. Kyle was able to navigate us through both the Eastern and Western sections of Kodiak Island, the second largest island in the United States. We took the 1/2 mile hike to the viewing area, and we saw more than 20 bears! Many of the bears were cubs, and they were having fun playing literally 30 feet away from us! We had our pilots / guides and rangers around us and never felt threatened as we watched from a grassy knoll above the salmon ladder and river leading into Frazier Lake. We highly recommend Kingfisher Aviation for bear viewing in Kodiak Island! This was a wonderful and memorable experience See more..

Went on a van tour with Brooke and Vadele (cousins). This excursion was booked through Oceania cruises while visiting Wrangell. They took us to Shake Chief lodge house. There we met an elder who told us of the history of the place and people. Then off to The Wrangell Museum (a must)! Both young women new their history and personal stories to round out the experience. Then off to Petroglyph Beach where we made rubbings and located petroglyphs from time immemorial. What a grand experience!!! See more..

    VSHelicopters Tours image
I’m a local to Valdez and my boyfriend and I went up in the heli with Pilot Casey for the first time today. We went to Valdez glacier, and it was awesome. You really can’t grasp how vastly beautiful this place is unless you see it in the air. Casey’s piloting was smooth as butter (I was worried about getting motion sick, it wasn’t a problem at all) and he gave the tour well, pointing out all the cool sites and searching for critters. The heli was super clean and we felt comfortable considering the current COVID protocols. We will be recommending VS Helicopters to all of our friends and family who come to visit, and will most likely be taking another tour with them in the near future. Don’t miss this while in Valdez! Sawyer Glacier image
There are two parts to this glacier and we saw both. We took the 8-hour boat ride out of Juneau and it was very well done by Allen Marine Tours. A good boat tour will include slowing when near the small icebergs floating by, being close to a waterfall or two and even possible whale or mountain goat sightings. Be sure to wear layered clothing as it can be cold in the open even if it is not when you leave Juneau. See more..

The Kodiak Life Guide Service image
The Kodiak Life was a FABULOUS private tour! Tour Guide Janet geared it towards our interests which was island scenery, wildlife, and Kodiak interest points! We took a small hike to see an Eagle nest and Mama Eagle was there caring for her Baby! We saw 2 other Eagles nests during the day as well! They are huge! We also saw Eagles flying. We got to see several of the island’s bays and stopped at one to beach comb! I got some unique shells and we saw crabs in the water! We saw several Sitka deer and a few river otters. We also saw a herd of 15 Buffalo including 4 babies grazing near a beach!!! The views were incredible and since she drove, my Dad and I could relax and enjoy the awesome views! Kodiak is an amazing island and in the course of the day we drove through 3 different ecosystems. Janet was extremely knowledgeable about each one! And on top of all that, she provided our lunch and it was super delicious!!!❤️ We both highly recommend this tour! See more..

A half day glacier visit followed by two days whale watching left us with unforgetable experiences and memories, way beyond our wildest hopes. Captain Kelly was superb! Extremely knowledgeable and thoughtful, making sure that we saw everything and totally respectful of the environment and the wildlife. It was a real pleasure spending time with her. Her knowledge, skill and intuition had us pushing gently through brilliant blue ice to reach the nose of the glacier, watching seals, sea lions, porpoise and eagles, and sitting on deck listening to and watching numerous whales around the five finger islands, seeing their behaviour change as we heard sounds of breaching and fin slapping from the other side of the sound. Just so fascinating and magical! To top it all, Kelly managed to find humpback whales bubble net fishing on both days. Time after time, up to 22 whales dived down, to emerge in a feeding frenzy some minutes later, with the gulls joining in from the air to pick up any herring that escaped the "net". We could not only see it all playing out in front of us, but also hear the whale hunting conversation going on under water through the hydrophone. A truly incredible event to witness first hand. A massive thank you Kelly for making our visit so extraordinary and wonderful! See more..

    Sea Hawk Air image
Jo was excellent in keeping touch with us, and updating us with weather conditions and pick up time, even several days ahead. Roland is such a friendly and informative guy, as well as an excellent pilot. We went to Fraser Lake near the south end of Kodiak, and had a nice air tour of the island along the way. We were so lucky when we were viewing the bears, that we didn't have any time limitations, and just comfortably watched as up to 14 bears came into the river and weir area to fish for salmon. On our way back, I jokingly told Roland that we hadn't seen any orcas during our time in the state, and he said they are only randomly seen. Just then, as we flew by Whale Island, we found a pod of orcas, and he landed the plane on the water; then they were surfacing near us! This was fantastic and afforded excellent photos and close experience. After we took off again, we flew over two pairs of mother and baby humpbacks. What an awesome day! See more..

Favorite part of the trip besides catching unbelievable halibut was the attention the crew gave me to my seasickness issues. Boat Captain was a delight and her knowledge of fishing in the ocean is second to none. Salt water fishing can be a little tough on me do to my sensitive sea sickness issues. The Captain and Crew were attentive to the water conditions as to minimize my potential sea sickness concern. The Fishing was wonderful!!! 28. 5.0 Glacier Bay Sea Kayaks (135 reviews)
    - Excellent Service
    Kayaking & Canoeing
    Glacier Bay Sea Kayaks image
We kayaked Glacier Bay’s West Arm on a 7 day/6 night self-guided trip the first week of June 2021. The folks at Glacier Bay Sea Kayaks, Kara in the office and Leah in Gustavus, are great to work with. They run an efficient and professional operation and are concerned about the safety of their clients. Aside from renting us the kayaks they booked our flights in and out of Gustavus from Juneau, our room at the Glacier Bay Lodge and the day boat transport to and from the pickup point. They also rent rubber rain gear and boots – essential for keeping dry. The kayaks were in great shape and everything worked as it should. I’m not sure why but I find Leah’s tandem kayaks the most comfortable for my back I’ve ever used. Every other kayak I’ve tried makes my back ache soon into the trip. The kayak was also the most stable feeling kayaking I’ve been in and it easily held all our gear, including 3 bear containers. See more..
  29. 5.0 Hoonah Whale Tours (130 reviews)
    - Wonderful Whale Watch Experience!
Boat Tours • Dolphin & Whale Watching • Nature & Wildlife Tours
    Hoonah Whale Tours image
We had a fantastic time on our whale watching excursion. We saw whales bubble net feeding multiple times, sea lions and a very large brown bear! The boat while larger enough has room for only 6 so you are able to enjoy your time without competing for a good view like on some other larger boats I've gone on. Joardan was an excellent captain and guide. We also enjoyed the complementary coffee, snacks and the home made muffins his wife made. If your cruise stops in Icy Strait I highly recommend booking with Hoonah Whale Tours rather than booking one of the larger boats the cruise ship offers in their excursions See more..

    Alaskan Widespread Fishing Adventures image
If you were an aged angler, you became picky, and you knew it is not easy to find the right fishing guide all the time, especially in new locations. But We were extremely lucky to booked the one with Reubin on our first trip to Kenai River. Reubin is decent and quiet, his voice is gentle, but when you capture each word he whispered, you will realize how precise and expert he is. His boat is clean, the line is crystal and bait is fresh and dedicate treated. We are a group of 10 people including 4 kids, Reubin hosted us with three boats, I was concerned about other two boats since they are less experienced than me. But you know what, I was the last one to limit out that day. Thanks Reubin and Mindy for the great experience! See more..

    Alaska Guide Co image
We live near Anchorage and always wanted to see Valdez. We planned our trip around this canoe tour, as we had heard good things about the guide company. We chose the canoe tour because it was affordable for a family of 5 and our 3 boys didn’t want to spend a whole day on a guided tour. Joe was a great guide and allowed our boys to skip rocks on the lake and walk on some large chunks of glaciers. Joe was personable and accommodating. I also appreciated being in the canoe because it allowed me to take some great photos of the experience. Joe also took some photos of our family, which are great memories of our trip to Valdez. Would definitely recommend! See more..
  33. 5.0 Perseverance National Recreation Trail (124 reviews)
    - My Walk to the Trail Head
    Hiking Trails
    Perseverance National Recreation Trail image
I had some time before heading to the airport after my cruise ended, so I decided to explore this trail. It was a beautiful way to end my vacation! I started at the harbor and walked to the trail head from there, buying a few gifts at the shops in town- and realized I'd walked enough! Eve the walk there was beautiful and peaceful with the occasional locals, either walking or driving but politely sharing the road. It was interesting to get close to where the streams coming down from high in the mountains formed a roaring river. The size of the boulders left by receding glaciers was truly impressive. I wish I could have gone more into the woods but bears live there and we'd been told on the cruise that it was safer to hike in groups. Still a spectacular walk. See more..

First trip to Alaska and this was our first choice of excursions once we flew in and it didn’t disappoint us!! Wife was alittle uneasy about seadoos in the ocean but after 20 min you couldn’t pull her off.. The staff is patient and truly love their jobs.. The machines, dry suits etc are all top of the line as they buy new water craft every year.. You running on the water for 3 hrs with stops along the way allowing plenty of time to see the sights. If it’s real cold or just cold blooded ask for a onesy fleece suit to wear under your dry suit. You have the choice to drive your own ski or ride 2 up if your not sure about controlling your own ski. I would highly recommend this adventure!! See more..

We were in between runs on the Kenai and had to work for the salmon but Mike’s knowledge and expertise got us on some fish. We brought home 30lbs of Sockeye and we’re thrilled to do so. Alaska Drift Away Fishing image
I've always wanted to go to Alaska and fish for Salmon. With very little research and some very good luck I landed upon the Alaska Drift Away Fishing web site. What I experienced with my son and my brother exceeded my expectations. Five nights in a great cabin and 4 days of great fishing. Kings, sockeye, halibut and rainbows. I never thought I'd see or certainly ever catch a 28 inch rainbow but Nick - our guide showed us the right technique in the right place at the right time. Jeremy put us on to Kings when conventional wisdom said they were not around any more! Over all great experience! Tips? Soldotna, Alaska is isolated but just about ANYTHING you need you can get a supermarket/ walmart kinda place called Fred Meyers not far from camp. This means you don't have to over pack. See more..

What an amazing expedition and one that we won't soon forget. The experience was hands-down exciting throughout both days of fishing. Waking up early to catch a great spot on the river was perfect as it allowed for the best chance to catch some sockeye. The welcome we received at our cabin was top-tier and the hospitality for the duration of the stay was amazing. Halibut fishing was also thrilling and worth every single penny. Mark and Cindy are amazing hosts and gave explicit instructions in their packet with great communication for what to expect while we were in Alaska. Would love to do it again! See more..

I had an absolute blast dog sledding at happy trails kennel and highly recommend this experience! This kennel is owned by Martin Buser, a renowned dog musher who has competed in the Iditarod dozens of times and has even taken first place several times - how cool?! Our guide (Michael) did a phenomenal job driving the dog sled and answering mine and my friend’s many questions. He had much knowledge to share as he has also competed in the Iditarod several times! The views were breathtaking and we were comfortable during the whole ride as the kennel provided boots, parkas, and other cold weather gear. Additionally, getting to play with the dogs after the ride made my day - heck it made my week! I recommend this experience for everyone, but especially to dog lovers! See more..

An experience to remember forever. From initial booking, pre communication, to the minute we stepped on the boat, until the end of the day when we exited the boat--top shelf all the way! If you are planning a fishing trip to Alaska, Whittier Marine Charters is where you need to book it though. Matt and Paige took care of our our needs and were very knowledgeable regarding what they do/provide. They worked very hard all day to make it an enjoyable experience and to top it off, we are brining back lots of fish. Thanks again and I highly recommend this adventure. Great job Matt and Paige! Thank you Whittier Marine Charters!!! See more..

I've fished with alot of guides both here in Alaska and across the globe. Andrew is amongst the best. We left on time, one of the first boats on the water fishing the Kasilof River this morning for sockeye salmon. We enjoyed about a hour float seeing 5 or 6 moose feeding on the river bank, eagles nesting along the shoreline and even a seal moving up the river feeding. This time of year there's alot of boats and fisherman hustling to spots for there chance to fill their coolers and Andrew put us on "the spot". We had other fisherman to our left and right most of the day but we seemed to be catching when they weren't. Andrew coached and stayed attentive all day giving us those tips and tricks to improve our chances. When we had a fish on he would hustle (run) into the river with the net coaching us to land the fish. If your looking not only to catch fish but have that lifetime Alaska experience on the water with absolute legend of a guide, book with Chadwick's fishing guide service. See more..

Natalie was absolutely amazing! Chels and I had a great day fishing with her. She provided all the gear and had Chels on a fish within a few casts. Staying at the lodge at the park and being able to find a local guide in town was the best thing we could have done. Chels was so stoked to find out Natalie also did sea kayaking. After having a difficult time booking them through Glacier Bay lodge it was just meant to be with Natalie. Chels and Jenna couldn't stop talking about the kayak trip they'd gone out on for the rest of the day. If you're looking for a great addition to anything you have planned while visiting Glacier Bay I highly recommend you get in contact with Natalie! See more..

We had a party of 7 consisting of a 10, 11, and 12 year old, 2 40somethings, and 2 70 year olds. Richard was so cool. He was great with the kids. Very patient. It was great to get to know a true alaskan, and he was a pleasure to talk to. Gave a great history of the area. And we found gold, and saw moose. Highly recommended, as this was one of the coolest things we did on our 10 day trip. We like hands on adventure, and this was cool. The water was cold even through the rubber boots, and having 2 pars of socks on would have helped. You start by meeting him at his place, and he gives you knee high rubber boots, and takes you to the river, telling you cool stories about the area. Then he teaches you how to pan for gold. Then grills up some reindeer sausages when you get back to his place. Highly recommended. See more..

This was a privately booked excursion taken while on a week long Alaskan cruise with my wife. Went out on 18 July with three fellow cruise ship passengers and one solo traveler. Had a great time fishing for halibut. I caught one, although not a giant, it made the whole outing totally worth it. Others caught fish as well. Saw some dolphins as a bonus. Would recommend! Wow! Alaska troutfitters was AMAZING! We did a guided fly out with Sam. He was perfect. I am not very experienced so he gave me tips and pointers along the way without being pushy. My husband (who is much more experienced) was given Alaska specific guidance and advanced techniques. We caught loads of Grayling and had an unforgettable day on the water. We also rented gear from the fly shop for the next two days. Sam and those in the shop have us great tips and suggested hike in fishing holes. All proved to be great recommendations. Friendly, professional, and just the right amount of guidance. Want to return in a few years and we will definitely go through Troutfitters again! See more..

EZ limit booked us a great salmon trip. River flows were high but they worked hard and found us a lot of fish. They booked us a variety of experiences and fishing methods which made each day a fun and unique experience. In addition they popped in on our boat and provided warm cinnamon roles in the early morning hours while waiting for the sun to come up. They provided a great fishing trip. Looking forward to our next trip with EZ. See more..
