Take a jacket and a camera
There are two parts to this glacier and we saw both. We took the 8-hour boat ride out of Juneau and it was very well done by Allen Marine Tours. A good boat tour will include slowing when near the small icebergs floating by, being close to a waterfall or two and even possible whale or mountain goat sightings. Be sure to wear layered clothing as it can be cold in the open even if it is not when you leave Juneau.

Amazing! Breathtaking! Unbelievable!
We saw Sawyer Glacier from a private excursion boat we boarded from our cruise ship. I am so thankful we booked this trip! The ride to the glacier was gorgeous. We saw beautiful turquoise icebergs, seals lounging on them, bears climbing down the mountain, enormous waterfalls, and when we got to Sawyer Glacier a 20 ft hunk of ice calved from it! Unbelievable! On our ride back to the ship we enjoyed Glacier Margaritas!

Picturesque Coastal Glacier
Saw the glacier from a cruise ship. We were lucky to get so close considering it was a large cruise ship! Many huge ice bergs in the area leading up towards the glacier. Glacier is huge, similar to the Mendenhall Glacier in my opinion. Definitely worth a visit if possible!
