    Tracy Arm Fjord image
HAL Westerdam cruise up TracyArm was beautiful with an enjoyable lunch on our veranda. Although we were on the starboard (left) side, the captain turned ship 360 degrees , allowing everyone a view. Hot chocolate, appetizers and champagne offered on the bow. Initially hampered by fog, developed into a beautiful rain free day. See more..
  2. 5.0 Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve (1.398 reviews)
    - Stunning Glaciers

Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve image
The highlight of the trip was exploring the Glacier Bay for 9 hours. Our Alaska cruise sails to the Inside Passage of a series of waterways formed by glaciers. It’s a beautiful day visiting the national park to see gigantic snow cap mountains and huge glaciers. It’s wonderful to see bright blue icebergs rising out of the water. I was surprised to see the Margerie Glacier’s signature crack and pieces fall off across the waves. I was amazed by this clean, natural preserved national park. The Glacier Bay Park Rangers went onboard early morning. They spend the day aboard to answer questions, explain the scenery as the ship explore the Glacier Bay to appreciate the wonders of the national park. At the same time, the Park Rangers enforce the laws to the safety, cleanliness of the national park and assist to prevent disaster for guests. The full day tour at the bay is well worth it. Both the glaciers and the surrounding scenery are spectacular. The entire place was stunningly gorgeous. See more..

Definitely recommend hanging out and checking out the docks. You may see a sea otter or harbor seals poking their heads out. There’s coffee shops that you can grab a drink and sit/walk. Watch the fisherman bring in fish and fillet it by either ends of the dock. J-Docks is a great store to get local fish. See more..
  5. 5.0 Cook Inlet (602 reviews)
    - Check this out on a map- it's huge.
    Bodies of Water
    Cook Inlet image
Cook Inlet goes from "Turnagain Arm" to the wide open Pacific. The "Arm" section goes inland but it's not really navigable; it's all mud flats. The Pacific side empties into the Pacific near Homer. No wonder Captain Cook thought that this body of water would take him across to the north Atlantic. See more..

    - Best Campground for everything.
    Bodies of Water
    Byers Lake image
I have lived in Alaska 42 years and this is my favorite camping spot. We have gone here as many times as 10 a summer. It has it all. Each camping spot is large, almost 1/4 acre, picnic table, fire pit, lots of room for even large vehicles. Hike to the waterfalls, my favorite and well maintained trails. Hike around the lake, good hike but lots to see. We even biked the trails around and especially down from up by the road. Weeeeeeee. Canoeing or kayaking for the best view of Mt. McKinley on middle or other side of lake. Good fishing (consult your regulations for keepers), trout in winter, and great salmon in summer. LOTS of wildlife, beavers, otters, Trumpeter and Tundra Swans, loons, moose, but be prepared as quite a few bears. Also connects with 20+ mile hike along Kesugi Ridge above treelike. This place has it all and above the campground a great Memorial honoring Veterans with great Mt. views, picnics, or just stretching lake. A must stop!!!!!! See more..
  13. 4.5 Bear Creek Weir (64 reviews)
    - Worth a look, good stop on the way to Bear Lake.
Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water
    Bear Creek Weir image
We stopped by early on a Sunday morning, so the weir was not open. Nonetheless we enjoyed walking around the weir and watching the salmon in the creek. The weir is easy to find, and there is plenty of parking on both sides of the road. After stopping at the weir, we drove a half mile further to Bear Lake where we saw spawning salmon right by the bank. See more..

  17. 4.5 Two Lakes Park (43 reviews)
    - Hidden gem, beautiful mile-long loop hike in center of Seward
Bodies of Water • Parks • Hiking Trails
    Two Lakes Park image
This was such a nice surprise during our visit to Seward. The Two Lakes hike is a loop trail which goes around 2 lakes and offers views of 2 waterfalls. The trail is well defined, but has many tree roots and rocks to navigate. The elevation change is minimal and easily managed by my 61-year-old knees. The trail winds through a lush forest which is strewn with occasional intriguing artifacts - perhaps from the 1964 tsunami? There are 2 parking areas; one at the north end and one at the south end, each with picnic tables overlooking the lake (but with no restrooms). This is a great activity for families or adults with a bit of time to enjoy being outdoors in Seward. Highly recommend. See more..
  18. 4.5 Chilkoot Lake State Recreation Area (37 reviews)
    - Free, nice views, Mtns and lake and wildlife. Many Photo Opportunities.
Spent 2-3 hours Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas
Chilkoot Lake State Recreation Area image
This is a large lake with Mtn's as the back ground. There is a self serve campground that has many large pull through sites, although there is low hanging branches from the mature spruce trees. We did see many large RV's in the campground. The campground overlooks the lake. This is a primitive park. This is a good kayak /canoe lake. The Chilkoot River runs from the lake to Haines inlet. This river may be 1 mile long but it is filled with Salmon in late June and July. This brings fisherman, eagles, bears and many onlookers. The river is fast flowing and has many varieties of birds. This area is about 11 miles from Haines but the drive to the recreation area is wonderful also. You pass the Haines Ferry Terminal and have great views. Look up for eagles and down in the water for harbor seals. Bears show up when salmon run is on also. The 11 mile ride also has several pull outs that have outdoor johns for your use. Have fun, this is a beautiful area. See more..

    Chilkat River image
This was an amazing rafting experience ! We were in town (Haines) for only one day with no previous arrangements, headed to the Eagle sanctuary. With only a phone call we had an experienced, knowledgeable engaging tour guide, that listened to what we were interested in, and accommodated all our requests. Further, we found this father – son team that operated this company to be instantly likeable, to the point that weve already begun plans to return. See more..
  20. 4.0 Valdez Glacier Lake (35 reviews)
    - Nice little place
Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water
    Valdez Glacier Lake image
The lake itself is not too far from Valdez. While driving you will have to drive the unpaved road to reach the lake and at the end, you will be welcomed with a lake full of floating glacier ice with a backdrop of mountains. Worth that short drive to enjoy nature for yourself. There are some mines that are around which is not really great to see around, but it is what it is.... See more..

    Pullen Creek Stream Walk image
I came to know of the Pullen Creek Stream Walk in Skagway while waiting to get on the White Pass Summit Train ride at the train station near the ship docking area. Since I had quite some time before boarding the train, I decided to take a walk on the trail. My visit was the first week of June, much before the salmon started swimming. So, I did not see any salmon in the creek waters. There are frequent informative and colorful plaques along the walk providing local wildlife information. The walk follows Pullen Creek (sometimes called Dewey Creek) and is quite peaceful. There are a few road crossings along which require some caution. I certainly recommend this walk as it is very flat and can be leisurely. See more..

    - Amazing White Water Rapids Day at Six Mile Creek!
    Bodies of Water
    Six Mile Creek image
Six Mile Creek Kenai Fjords National Park Amazing day at Six Mile Creek 846805888 My family and a local friend visited Six Mile Creek with the guides at NOVA Alaska. The entire trip was fantastic. Our family group consisted of 7 people on 2 rafts, and another larger group who traveled in from Slovakia. My family and friend were led by Reid and Berr. The guides were knowledgeable, entertaining, and highly skilled at training everyone to work together towards navigating the class IV and V rapids There were no major incidents and had there been, the team displayed their ability to quickly respond to adverse situations. Their traing and safety precautions will keep most people safe under most conditions, as long as they pay attention and listen to their guides. Of course we are dealing with nature and class V rapids. This group was so refreshing to be around that I didn't want the day to end. See more..
  27. 3.5 The Fishing Hole (11 reviews)
    - Big Hole and Big fun
    Bodies of Water
    The Fishing Hole image
Really this is just a big hole in the Spit where salmon stranded by the tide swim around and try to avoid getting caught. But it is a lesson in people watching to see the joy and excitement when one is hooked. It is also worth watching a seal come in and pursue a fish. Great for just watching fish and fisherman. 44. 5.0 Canoe Passage State Marine Park (1 review)
    - Sparkling Ocean Waters and Alaskan Marine Life
State Parks • Bodies of Water
You arrive by boat, a good day's trip from Cordova. The wild life and natural phenomena you can see on your way is numerous; sea mammals seals and sea lions, whales, pelagic birds of all sorts. A sunny day is a must, preferably while the fish are not running because the creek at the head of the bay is heavily populated with bears feeding on salmon. There are a few people nearby at homesites but no commerce, stores etc. or other amenities of civilization outside of Cordova, This is wilderness and the best Cordova has to offer in Alaska experience. Be sure to obey laws of pack in-pack out and good sportsmanship. This place has a lot of history and there are century-old reminders of long past human presence and experience; fox farms, fisheries and even indigenous fish camps so be respectful of this old time and ancient history. Leave things as they are. Enjoy the things that are there, plants and wildflowers but respect them so others can enjoy them too. See more..
