We, as a group of 18 neighbors, were lucky to have Dave, Tyler and Barbara as our drivers and guides for the Heritage Tour of Fairbanks one day; Chena Hot Springs and Northern Lights Tour another day: Aurora Viewing Cabin still another day: and finally for the Arctic Circle Trip. They packed a lot of vacation into one week for us. All were very attentive to our needs as an "active adult" (read senior) group! The information/narration along the way was excellent. They were always punctual when it came to picking us up at our lodge. Although we did not see the full Auroras, we did get a glimpse of them on the Arctic Circle Trip. All in all it was a great experience with Dave, Tyler and Barbara and would recommend Alaska Wildlife Guide for excursions in Fairbanks Alaska. Thank you! See more..

This trip couldn't have been better. From the moment the shuttle collected us, to the moment they dropped us off again, the staff were friendly and keen to share their knowledge of the area and history surrounding it. Thanks to our eagle eyed guide, we were lucky enough to see a wild bear on a beach, before heading further out and finding a pod of very curious porpoises and a number of Humpback whales, including at least one with a calf. This trip exceeded our expectations and made for an incredibly enjoyable and memorable day. We got great value for money and would highly recommend this as an activity to anyone who is visiting Hoonah/Icy Strait Point. See more..

From the moment our guide got in touch a few days before our tour we knew this would be an incredible experience. We did the three day Columbia glacier kayak + overnight lodge stay, and frankly it was the best money we've spent in Alaska in a long time (we visit yearly, so that says something!) The glacier was spectacular, and Tim (owner and our captain) did a great job of slowing on our ride to scope out wildlife. We saw jellyfish, otters, sea lions, and a curious harbor seal. Our guide, Kyle, was a perfect fit for us, and we felt he kept us engaged and moving but never drove us beyond our physical comfort zone (which for a trip that involved three days of kayaking, felt very mindful and attentive). But the real treat of this particular excursion was staying with Chris at his lodge. All hours of the day we could hike the area, eat blueberries and salmon berries right off the bushes, and watch otter pups frolicking in the shallows between leaping pink salmon. A black bear showed up right in the front yard (small and harmless, eating berries just like we were). It was a spectacular home base for kayaking (we saw seals and a TON of curious otters that came right up beside our kayaks if we stayed still, and a number of eagles), and Chris himself was a font of knowledge and entertainment, as well as a phenomenal cook - we ate better those two nights than most of our trip out to restaurants! Frankly I could rant and rave on, but book this trip! Seriously! See more..

Our family of six had an incredible experience on a 5-night camping/sea kayaking adventure with Anadyr. With four kids and two adults, we needed experts to put this trip together and everyone at Anadyr was fantastic. It was obvious that a lot of thought had been put into the planning of our trip - making sure everyone's needs were addressed and always making safety a priority. We would highly recommend Anadyr for families that are looking for an experience of a lifetime. We will all remember this trip for years to come! See more..

McCarthy River Tours & Outfitters image
We stayed for three nights at McCarthy. Since it was going to rain the third day we booked a trip with McCarthy River Tours & Outfitters. We chose the 4 hour lake and river rafting based on some very informative email interaction with Chris. The trip was really amazing. We had lots of fun and always failed safe despite some fun big waves on the river. Given our younger kids we had three tour guides: Ally, Sarah and Violet, with Ally being the lead guide. They all made the experience super fun for the whole family and our kids learned a lot about McCarthy and the glacier and had lots of laughs. They also have a pick up and drop off service and even the bus rides to and from the river were very fun and super enjoyable. I can highly recommend this tour for old and young ones. Thank you Ally, Sarah and Violet! See more..

My favorite part was truly the entire experience! Walking on Root Glacier was something that will stand out in my memories for the rest of my life! The weather was difficult, 40 degrees with a hard frigid driving rain but our guide expertly kept us safe and having tons of fun on the ice. I felt like the pace was perfect. I also enjoyed listening to her narration and actually understanding the glacier rather than just looking at the glacier! My guide even gave me a ride back to McCarthy when the tour was over! She didn’t have to do that! It was above and beyond her duties and I am grateful for her actions!! Overall, a splendid experience. I have been on tours all over the world. I have also been to 60 of the 63 US National Parks. This experience goes right to the very top in all of my life! Thank you! See more..

    Breakaway Adventures Day Tours image
The tour was all that we had hoped for. Eric, our guide has a wealth of experience and we explored several areas off the main tour course on the way to the lake and glacier. The tour is 4 hours and Eric timed it perfectly. We also needed to move up the standard departure time by 30 minutes in order to be sure to get back to our cruise ship on time and that was no problem. The tour was considerably less expensive than those booked through the cruise ship, but comparing the experience with passengers that booked through the ship, we definitely had an equivalent experience. I would definitely use Breakaway if we ever return to Wrangell and highly recommend them. See more..

A half day glacier visit followed by two days whale watching left us with unforgetable experiences and memories, way beyond our wildest hopes. Captain Kelly was superb! Extremely knowledgeable and thoughtful, making sure that we saw everything and totally respectful of the environment and the wildlife. It was a real pleasure spending time with her. Her knowledge, skill and intuition had us pushing gently through brilliant blue ice to reach the nose of the glacier, watching seals, sea lions, porpoise and eagles, and sitting on deck listening to and watching numerous whales around the five finger islands, seeing their behaviour change as we heard sounds of breaching and fin slapping from the other side of the sound. Just so fascinating and magical! To top it all, Kelly managed to find humpback whales bubble net fishing on both days. Time after time, up to 22 whales dived down, to emerge in a feeding frenzy some minutes later, with the gulls joining in from the air to pick up any herring that escaped the "net". We could not only see it all playing out in front of us, but also hear the whale hunting conversation going on under water through the hydrophone. A truly incredible event to witness first hand. A massive thank you Kelly for making our visit so extraordinary and wonderful! See more..

    Glacier Bay Sea Kayaks image
We kayaked Glacier Bay’s West Arm on a 7 day/6 night self-guided trip the first week of June 2021. The folks at Glacier Bay Sea Kayaks, Kara in the office and Leah in Gustavus, are great to work with. They run an efficient and professional operation and are concerned about the safety of their clients. Aside from renting us the kayaks they booked our flights in and out of Gustavus from Juneau, our room at the Glacier Bay Lodge and the day boat transport to and from the pickup point. They also rent rubber rain gear and boots – essential for keeping dry. The kayaks were in great shape and everything worked as it should. I’m not sure why but I find Leah’s tandem kayaks the most comfortable for my back I’ve ever used. Every other kayak I’ve tried makes my back ache soon into the trip. The kayak was also the most stable feeling kayaking I’ve been in and it easily held all our gear, including 3 bear containers. See more..

    Alaska Guide Co image
We live near Anchorage and always wanted to see Valdez. We planned our trip around this canoe tour, as we had heard good things about the guide company. We chose the canoe tour because it was affordable for a family of 5 and our 3 boys didn’t want to spend a whole day on a guided tour. Joe was a great guide and allowed our boys to skip rocks on the lake and walk on some large chunks of glaciers. Joe was personable and accommodating. I also appreciated being in the canoe because it allowed me to take some great photos of the experience. Joe also took some photos of our family, which are great memories of our trip to Valdez. Would definitely recommend! See more..

Natalie was absolutely amazing! Chels and I had a great day fishing with her. She provided all the gear and had Chels on a fish within a few casts. Staying at the lodge at the park and being able to find a local guide in town was the best thing we could have done. Chels was so stoked to find out Natalie also did sea kayaking. After having a difficult time booking them through Glacier Bay lodge it was just meant to be with Natalie. Chels and Jenna couldn't stop talking about the kayak trip they'd gone out on for the rest of the day. If you're looking for a great addition to anything you have planned while visiting Glacier Bay I highly recommend you get in contact with Natalie! See more..

Alaska Sea Kayakers - Day Trips image
Alaska Sea Kayakers was a perfect way to spend an afternoon in Whittier! They were organized, on time, the gear was great and they provided helpful instruction to both novices and longtime kayakers alike. The 360 degree views while you're on Prince William Sound - of glaciers, waterfalls, inlets and more, was unbelievable. Our guide was awesome and was able to quickly read the group and understand that we were up for more than just your standard trip. He provided just enough information about the area and what we were looking at, but not too much that it distracted us from our own adventure and discoveries. I loved this so much I even bought a sweatshirt to bring back to Brooklyn, NY to show off! Not to mention, we ran into our guide a few hours later and he took us on a hike in the area just for fun! I don’t always review tour agencies, but when I do, it’s because I think you should rethink your entire itinerary to include kayaking. It was a cold rainy summer morning in Whittier. We loaded the kayaks in a boat, wondering if it was foolish to go chasing glaciers in a kayak while the rain showed no signs of stopping. I looked at Ryan, our guide, as he smiled with a “we got this” smirk that can only be achieved after years of hard earned experience. By the end of the trip, the rain was just background white noise that made the whole experience even more relaxing. That’s the hallmark of a good guide, they can refocus your attention in such a way that even the cold and the rain are things you enjoy. If you’re looking for a kayak trip, book here. If you’re not, also book here and thank me later when you find yourself in the middle of the Sound, surrounded by wild life and admiring how the glacier has polished the walls of rock over millions of years. We visited Icy Straight Point on our Celebrity Cruise at the end of July and were looking for something to do away from the cruise ship. This was a great option! Cody and his team were fantastic! We loved the beautiful scenery and all of the history of the Hoonah people we learned. The kayak and gear were all in great condition, but the staff of Fairweather Kayak Tours are what really made the experience incredible. This tour is definitely worth the money and something that will give you the quintessential Alaskan kayak experience. See more..

Rafting the Copper River with Copper Oar rafting company was a great experience. Lots of fun and challenges. Juniper Rose was my guide and did a great job rowing us down the river, preparing great meals and pointing out interesting facts I wouldn’t have even known to ask about. Scott the head boatman was knowledgeable and also a great guide. We saw Eagles and bears at a safe distance and lots of seals. It was an awesome trip. See more..

I live and play in Alaska and I've seen and done many of the normal day trips. I had the opportunity to have Capt John and the Tundra bring us on a back country ski trip in Prince William Sound. I've toured around many of the south central ski areas, but this place is incredible. I can't say enough good things. Deepest snow contrasted by Sitka Spruce and tidal lagoons. Pillows, glaciers, you name it. To make it even better, we would come back to the Tundra, and Capt John would have large meals eating for us. All while situated alone in a remote bay with no one else in sigh. There was plenty of room to sleep and lounge. I will 100% do this trip again. the only thing I would change is booking a 4+ day trip instead of a 2 day trip. See more..

I have spent years working and enjoying the natural beauty of Southeast Alaska. So when our family had the chance to travel together on a guided kayak trip with Spirit Walker Expeditions we jumped at opportunity. Our family loved every minute of it, from the quiet of a kayak expedition around Point Adolphus to falling asleep in tents to the sounds of Humpback Whales breathing nearby offshore. The equipment, staff, and food were excellent! I recommend Spirit Walker Expeditions for anyone interested in getting an up close experience with a very special part of Southeast Alaska. See more..

We spent 2 wonderful days with Scott on The Pelican and would highly recommend his tours. We did one day of whale watching and one day at the LeConte Glacier. Scott is very experienced with great knowledge of and love for the areas he guides in. He took great care to point out all of the different animals, young birds, and beautiful sights. We saw 50+ whales on our whale watching trip, and even got to see 2 breach! The boat is comfortable and safe, and we appreciated that it had a small bathroom too, as we were out on the water all day. Sound Paddler image
Just had an amazing kayak rental experience with Sound Paddler in Whittier. We've rented kayaks in various places in Alaska, including Whittier, and this was by far the most enjoyable. Easy to work with. Understanding. Helpful. We planned on a morning kayak, arriving through the tunnel at 10:30. However, in Whittier the wind was blowing and the water was pretty choppy. Sound Paddler called ahead to let us know, and once we arrived they were happy to accommodate putting off our rental for later in the day. No hassles. First, Sound Paddler offers one-day kayak rental, which is not the case with all outfitters. Also, with the 2020 pandemic ongoing, we were able to get 30% off the regular one-day double kayak rental rate, which was amazing. Bottom line: use Sound Paddler, you won't be disappointed. We used Tulchina Adventures for kayak rental and transport out to Thompsons Cabin. It was more expensive than I might have initially guessed, but definitely worth every penny. Beth is extremely competent and reliable with her commitments. When our plans were delayed due to weather, she was able to transport us out to the cabin a day late. We appreciated her knowledge of the area and made sure to follow her advice when kayaking out on the lake. It does take her a bit longer to respond due to the fact that she's often out transporting people across the lake. While we didn't stay on her property, we did walk over to the office and could appreciate its beauty. Bonus points for two really great dogs! See more..

Had an absolute blast with our kayak rentals from Kirk & Barb (owners)! This charming little business is situated right on a slough, so we had a quiet, peaceful kayak trip up to the Kuskokwim River-about 45 minutes each way! It's a super easy trip up the slough because there is barely a current! Beginners (like me) or kids or seniors will be totally fine! We went out right before sunset, a perfect time because there weren't very many boats out, so we were able to go out onto the river without worrying about fishermen and barges! Our trip was 2 hours long, in late June, and it got a bit chilly, so I definitely recommend a jacket! The owners were super friendly, we were a group of 4 from all over the lower 48, and we sat and chatted with the owners for a while after our trip-they were so sweet! Very helpful and offered lots of tips for other local things! We will definitely be making another stop here when we go back through Bethel! See more..

I met up with Patrick, of Turnagain Kayak and Adventure Center, and a couple of other friends for a three day sea kayaking trip outside of Whittier, Alaska. It was the best sea kayaking I've ever experienced. We heard a whale just off of the shore at night, had a lucky Northern lights show from the beach of an island where we camped, and sea kayaked out towards Blackstone Glacier on Blackstone Bay with seals and otters. Top notch kayak instructors with a lot of experience and concern for safety, and lots of local knowledge made our kayaking trip super special, can't wait to get back for more Alaskan adventures! Kenai lake is phenomenal and we had great weather, calm waters - saw many salmon and just enjoyed being out in nature with almost no one around - good for the soul. Ren was helpful to us when we got stuck and shared stories, took pictures etc. We paced ourselves with younger kids and enjoyed views which are breathtaking. For my friend's birthday, we wanted to do something fun and came across a coupon for kayaking. It was a great day for this beginners class. The lake was calm and the sun was out. The class was small (4 people). Randy was our instructor today. He's great about quizzing you through out the class and leaves plenty of opportunities for you to ask questions. We were was able to practice what we were learning and we got feedback after each new exercise. They do provide life jackets and kayak & paddle. We just forgot bug spray but only had issues on land. After "passing our final", he mentioned other courses they offer and one course stuck out after we finished, with which my friend and I are talking about doing later this summer! After today's experience, I think I'd like to invest more time into doing "courses" since it's not really like a trail to hike - don't know how else to word it but I'd definitely like to pick this up! It was so fun! See more..
