From the moment our guide got in touch a few days before our tour we knew this would be an incredible experience. We did the three day Columbia glacier kayak + overnight lodge stay, and frankly it was the best money we've spent in Alaska in a long time (we visit yearly, so that says something!) The glacier was spectacular, and Tim (owner and our captain) did a great job of slowing on our ride to scope out wildlife. We saw jellyfish, otters, sea lions, and a curious harbor seal. Our guide, Kyle, was a perfect fit for us, and we felt he kept us engaged and moving but never drove us beyond our physical comfort zone (which for a trip that involved three days of kayaking, felt very mindful and attentive). But the real treat of this particular excursion was staying with Chris at his lodge. All hours of the day we could hike the area, eat blueberries and salmon berries right off the bushes, and watch otter pups frolicking in the shallows between leaping pink salmon. A black bear showed up right in the front yard (small and harmless, eating berries just like we were). It was a spectacular home base for kayaking (we saw seals and a TON of curious otters that came right up beside our kayaks if we stayed still, and a number of eagles), and Chris himself was a font of knowledge and entertainment, as well as a phenomenal cook - we ate better those two nights than most of our trip out to restaurants! My husband and I rented two ATVs to explore Knik River while on our honeymoon. The rental process was super smooth, including the add-on delivery option to the trailhead. We spent hours exploring all of the local trails, despite not being able to make it all the way to Knik Glacier and would recommend ATR 100%!See more..
I would like to say thank you to Tabatha and her amazing team. They created a customized trip of a lifetime for me. I spent time in the helicopter (bird) and on the sleds (snow machines). This was the best trip I have been on and will absolutely rebook next year. The heli riding was insane and the guide (Steve) was an absolute legend. So knowledgeable, friendly, and humble. I felt so lucky to be part of the team on the best day of riding in my life. The next day it started snowing hard and I went on the snow machine tour. Could not have been better. So much terrain and so many laps. The lead guide (Peter) was awesome and he had an amazing team as well. There were two couples who worked for Black Ops and they shared the stoke. There was Danny and Dani, and Anna and ?. I basically had a photographer (Dani) on my heli team who was so friendly and also went out of her way to make my day memorable. I forgot the names of everybody so I apologize. You all are rock stars. One thing I think everybody should understand is that the weather and logistics call the shots in Valdez. It is best to stay more days and plan ahead. That being said, I absolutely scored and the vibes were epic from the first email to the goodbyes. Tabatha went out of her way to make me feel welcome and moved mountains to accommodate me. Would recommend to anyone who wants to have the best riding experience of their lives.See more..

We used Tulchina Adventures for kayak rental and transport out to Thompsons Cabin. It was more expensive than I might have initially guessed, but definitely worth every penny. Beth is extremely competent and reliable with her commitments. When our plans were delayed due to weather, she was able to transport us out to the cabin a day late. We appreciated her knowledge of the area and made sure to follow her advice when kayaking out on the lake. It does take her a bit longer to respond due to the fact that she's often out transporting people across the lake. While we didn't stay on her property, we did walk over to the office and could appreciate its beauty. Bonus points for two really great dogs!See more..

Review long overdue - sorry POW - but well deserved, so here it is: I, and my group, cannot say enough good things about Katie and our experience with POW. We took part in a 5 day canoe/kayak trip on the island back in 8/21. The trip gave us the adventure, solitude, and beauty we were looking for, due in large part to the wonderful service, gear, and advice Katie provided. Without the high-end kayak and canoe, I doubt we would've made it to our cabin, never mind the back country lakes on the canoe route. Also, we found Katie to be a great person too! Glad we made POW our choice and would again...hope to sometime soon.See more..

So glad we found this place—we were able to rent a very stable, comfortable double kayak for several hours of beautiful paddling on a stunning lake surrounded by mountains. Had an absolute blast with our kayak rentals from Kirk & Barb (owners)! This charming little business is situated right on a slough, so we had a quiet, peaceful kayak trip up to the Kuskokwim River-about 45 minutes each way! It's a super easy trip up the slough because there is barely a current! Beginners (like me) or kids or seniors will be totally fine! We went out right before sunset, a perfect time because there weren't very many boats out, so we were able to go out onto the river without worrying about fishermen and barges! Our trip was 2 hours long, in late June, and it got a bit chilly, so I definitely recommend a jacket! The owners were super friendly, we were a group of 4 from all over the lower 48, and we sat and chatted with the owners for a while after our trip-they were so sweet! Very helpful and offered lots of tips for other local things! We will definitely be making another stop here when we go back through Bethel!See more..

What once was described as a blue chip company has somehow again raised its standards to new unprecedented heights within the industry.Time and time again through out the year i have reverted myself again to remember the level of commitment and trust embodied within this business. Trust is the key component here and its not a subject or a word that i use frequently especially when describing a business.I do however use it here and it is both intentional and a deliberate act. This is a superlative company run seamlessly by Darren and his lovely wife. The vehicles are superb and in superb condition. At no time did i feel like i was renting a vehicle from HAR. It at all times felt like i was in partnership with the company. That meant a lot to me and my 9 year old son coming all the way from Ireland. It was no surprise to us that throughout the island Darren has a near semi-god status within the community. Superb company providing flawless service in the last frontier. Setting up the hunt was easy from the start working with Misty. She sent us recommended gear lists which made things simple if you're bringing your own camping gear. The contract was straight forward and if I had any questions she was always happy to answer questions or put me in touch with one of the other members of the team. Upon arrival to their base camp we were immediately given an update on fly times and what to expect as far as weather. The pilots were incredible and very informative. I met up with Patrick, of Turnagain Kayak and Adventure Center, and a couple of other friends for a three day sea kayaking trip outside of Whittier, Alaska. It was the best sea kayaking I've ever experienced. We heard a whale just off of the shore at night, had a lucky Northern lights show from the beach of an island where we camped, and sea kayaked out towards Blackstone Glacier on Blackstone Bay with seals and otters. Top notch kayak instructors with a lot of experience and concern for safety, and lots of local knowledge made our kayaking trip super special, can't wait to get back for more Alaskan adventures! If you're looking for an epic Alaskan Adventure, and want to learn how to have mad kayaking skills so that you can go out on your own as well, I highly recommend Turnagain Kayak Adventure Center for any kayaking trips or courses!See more..

As a cruise stop, we loved Haines! We highly recommend seeing Haines by the Scooter. There is only one ship in port at once, so the town still feels quaint and not overwhelmed with people. We decided to rent scooters ($20 an hour or $60 for the day), which was much less than any of the cruise excursions; however, only one adult per scooter because they are smaller engines. Alex gave us great directions, and we grabbed a Haines is for Hikers from the visitor center. We hiked Mt. Riley, which was more difficult than anticipated and took ~3.5 hours, but was spectacular at the top. We then rode out to the Chiphok Lake, which is a beautiful ride, and let us see a bunch of eagles.See more..

Great place to rent bikes and amazing trails nearby. We did resurrection pass, very tough, very rewarding, but there are tons of trails nearby for all skill levels. Mike and Lorraine are great, and super helpful when it came to planning a trip. They have full suspension bikes that are in perfect shape, and offer pickups and drop offs at the trails.
