We had an amazing time in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park thanks to St. Elias Alpine Guides! They were professional, well-organized and friendly and made our trip a very fun and memorable experience . We enjoyed ice climbing, exploring ice caves, touring the abandoned copper mill, and an airplane trip to the backcountry with Wrangell Mountain Air. The park is truly a unique place and having experienced guides who are so passionate about what they do makes for a truly unforgettable (and safe!) experience. This was a Holland America photography tour out of Skagway, Alaska. Your guide was Dale Cunning. It was an excellent tour in a small group. Dale timed stops to avoid crowds at the popular sites. Over 3 hours we made about 10 stops at photographic stops most of which I would have missed on my own. Dale is helpful to assist everyone no matter what their level of experience. Itinerary will vary depending on weather conditions. We had good weather so we started out at Skagway grave yard and waterfall and up to white pass and just into the Yukon. From the moment our guide got in touch a few days before our tour we knew this would be an incredible experience. We did the three day Columbia glacier kayak + overnight lodge stay, and frankly it was the best money we've spent in Alaska in a long time (we visit yearly, so that says something!) The glacier was spectacular, and Tim (owner and our captain) did a great job of slowing on our ride to scope out wildlife. We saw jellyfish, otters, sea lions, and a curious harbor seal. Our guide, Kyle, was a perfect fit for us, and we felt he kept us engaged and moving but never drove us beyond our physical comfort zone (which for a trip that involved three days of kayaking, felt very mindful and attentive). But the real treat of this particular excursion was staying with Chris at his lodge. All hours of the day we could hike the area, eat blueberries and salmon berries right off the bushes, and watch otter pups frolicking in the shallows between leaping pink salmon. A black bear showed up right in the front yard (small and harmless, eating berries just like we were). It was a spectacular home base for kayaking (we saw seals and a TON of curious otters that came right up beside our kayaks if we stayed still, and a number of eagles), and Chris himself was a font of knowledge and entertainment, as well as a phenomenal cook - we ate better those two nights than most of our trip out to restaurants! Betsy, our tour guide was wonderful. She made the glacier hike a memorable experience for our 11 year old son and us. I would recommend Nova over Mica guides. We had a flat tire and missed our prepaid glacier hike with Mica guides. Mica had spots available on a later tour the same day but wanted us to pay $300 again to rebook. Be careful if you book with Mica in advance. They will take your money and throw their nonrefundable policy at you. Nova on the other hand gave us a 10% discount because after learning about the day we had without us even asking. Nova also does not charge full price for children under 12. Nova is a company with great customer service. Highly recommend them!See more..

We stayed for three nights at McCarthy. Since it was going to rain the third day we booked a trip with McCarthy River Tours & Outfitters. We chose the 4 hour lake and river rafting based on some very informative email interaction with Chris. The trip was really amazing. We had lots of fun and always failed safe despite some fun big waves on the river. Given our younger kids we had three tour guides: Ally, Sarah and Violet, with Ally being the lead guide. They all made the experience super fun for the whole family and our kids learned a lot about McCarthy and the glacier and had lots of laughs. They also have a pick up and drop off service and even the bus rides to and from the river were very fun and super enjoyable. I can highly recommend this tour for old and young ones. We did the full day rafting and gold panning adventure. And this was an ADVENTURE — the raft dropped us and a guide off on a little island where we hiked on a thickly wooded moose trail and forded a creek (they give you waders!) to get to the gold panning site. And this is no touristy little gold panning — it’s hard work and the real deal! Our guide, Mike, was so knowledgeable and fun. My kids (10, 12, and 14) had a blast. The river float was also beautiful, the scenery is unreal and our rafting guide Tom was so knowledgeable and patient. My one caveat would be that although the website makes this sound like a low-key outing, the gold panning portion is actually quite physically demanding, so I would not recommend it for very young kids or people who don’t have a basic level of physical fitness. That said, we are no backwoodsmen — just some regular suburbanites — and we had the time of our lives!See more..

Rafting the Copper River with Copper Oar rafting company was a great experience. Lots of fun and challenges. Juniper Rose was my guide and did a great job rowing us down the river, preparing great meals and pointing out interesting facts I wouldn’t have even known to ask about. I’m 61 and have done a bunch of whitewater trips over the years, including the Grand Canyon, all the canyons of the Rio Grande in TX, New River in WV, West Canyon in Utah, the Oconee in TN and a bunch I can’t remember. Six Mile beats them all. It has big features, sweet canyons, and is very technical, not to mention completely gorgeous. Scott and the guys at Flow AK are beyond expert and professional — the best I’ve ever encountered. The dry suits we were provided were the best I have ever seen, and they definitely kept the cold and the water out. Our small group worked on safety and working together, then we had fun! 6 days king salmon fishing on Klutina and Gulkana rivers 6-11.7.2022 with Brandon was absolutely the best. Brandon was working hard that our 4 person group got kings and he succeeded it nicely! It was very safe on the raft or on the banks although there was an aggressive black bear moving around. Went on the 4th of July on the Klutina with Jake. Us being first timers, we were nervous. Jake gave us all the guidance we needed to succeed, and at the end of the day we felt like professionals. It was a hell of a fun trip with a real down to earth guide who prioritizes in getting you what u came out to do. Learned a lot, and we all had a great time!! If you are looking for the Alaskan King Salmon fishing trip of a lifetime look no further- Evan Sledge or “the sledge hammer” as we call him, will put you on the fish. We had a fabulous time on the Glacier trek on Matanuska Glacier with Mitch and Drew. These guides taught us so much about the glacier. They were fun and engaging while keeping us all safe. What an incredible experience! We had a group of 7, ranging in age from 12 to 43 with varying physical aptitudes. Everyone had a great time. They provided all the gear we needed. Since we had a rental RV, we even got to camp in their parking lot for free. Amazing!See more..
