The entire experience was amazing. We got there a couple hours before the cruise was going to leave so we walked around Whittier which was so fun. Going through the tunnel to get to Whittier was also pretty exhilarating! The cruise itself was perfect (26 glacier tour). We saw a lot of wildlife (whales, otters, seals and dolphins) and the cruise was so smooth. Our ship was from NYC and had a lot of history which was really interesting. Thankful they shared that history with us. No one got sea sick because the ship rides so smooth but also travels at 36 knots which is a pretty healthy speed. We got great pictures of the glaciers and really enjoyed the chowder that was provided for us. I highly recommend experiencing the 26 glacier tour in Whittier, as I have no negative feedback about the entire experience!See more..
This trip couldn't have been better. From the moment the shuttle collected us, to the moment they dropped us off again, the staff were friendly and keen to share their knowledge of the area and history surrounding it. Thanks to our eagle eyed guide, we were lucky enough to see a wild bear on a beach, before heading further out and finding a pod of very curious porpoises and a number of Humpback whales, including at least one with a calf. This trip exceeded our expectations and made for an incredibly enjoyable and memorable day. We just finished a four day long range fishing trip out of Homer on the Sundy with six family and friends. Captain Garrett and Gavin were awesome and went above and beyond to make it a trip we will never forget. Everywhere we stopped we caught a ton of fish, including true trophies of all species we were targeting. The weather was amazing, whales were everywhere, the deck was constantly filled with fish, and we had an unbelievable time. After the trip we had our fish processed at Ninilchik for an excellent price and superb final product. I chartered Glacier Wind for a whale watching trip on 7/29/2021 while in port on a Royal Caribbean Serenade cruise because I didn't want to do the ship's excursion. I couldn't have been happier with the experience I had with this family owned business. The communication of the details of where to meet and what to expect were precise and easy to understand. Even though we ended up being the only 2 people who had booked that day, they didn't cancel the cruise even though I expect they didn't make much profit from the booking. Captain Casey was very professional and skilled at both driving the boat and spotting whales from very far away. We saw an otter and many humpbacks and were able to get photos of breaching and fins slapping the surface. He was very knowledgable about the area and the marine life so we learned a lot and really enjoyed the hot chocolate he brought! Great trip! This trip could have flopped with any other outfit. On August 10, my son and I were on the six person boat with Manny as our guide. In route to the fishing area we had to turn back due to bad weather and a rough sea state. Manny found a protected spot where we fished for several hours and the boat caught its limit of yellow eye. The weather cleared in the afternoon and Manny moved locations and we caught halibut, cod and then Silver Salmon. Some fishing boats didn’t leave Whittier due to the morning weather. I highly recommend Crazy Rays’s and Manny. They have excellent fishing equipment and Manny is a top-notch a guide who knows where the fish are and how to catch them. Please be advised that all of this area of Alaska has very high tides so getting off any floating object- ship dock etc. might require negotiating a steep ramp. There is a Jitney to take you around the Hoonah tourist area to the shops and the tour assembly sites. To get to the town itself there are taxis for a buck or two to do the mile or so walk. Not much in the town itself and mainly tourist type souvenirs in the area at the port area. The crew on our trip was helpful, but we just got real lucky. There was the pod of Orcas a distance from our relatively small boat that decided that it would be fun to swim under our boat s close as possible to the hull without actually hitting it,. They splashed us as we watched in amazement since we could see them throught the clear water. After that they just hung out in the area-Orca play time? as they slapped their tails on the surface many times. 1/2 Day Fishing the Kenai River with J.J. We got lucky, we didn't know any guides so we left it up to the company. We fished with J.J. and it couldn't have turned out any better. All 4 of us were pretty much river fishing novices, JJ was a great instructor and has patience and knows what he's doing. Very laid back but constantly teaching and notices everything going on around him on the river. We caught 9 Sockeye in a short amount of time, lost as many but had the time of our lives out there. JJ knows where to find the fish and knows the best techniques, he's energetic and active, great with the net and will chase your fish way downstream if necessary. Alaska Vista is very well run business, catering to all a client's needs. The team makes you feel like family. They picked us up at the airport, whisked us away to our glacier tour (which was fabulous), and dropped us off at our airbnb on the first day. The next day we meet the tour for the Anan bear viewing. Robert, our guide, is extremely knowledgeable about native and animal usage of plants, bear etiquette and allowed us to snap pics til our heart was content. And it was. He's a great photographer as well. Sylvia, our captain for both days was a kick, knowledgeable, gracious and kept us laughing. The two days we spent with Alaska Vista were the highlights of our trip. The tour was all that we had hoped for. Eric, our guide has a wealth of experience and we explored several areas off the main tour course on the way to the lake and glacier. The tour is 4 hours and Eric timed it perfectly. We also needed to move up the standard departure time by 30 minutes in order to be sure to get back to our cruise ship on time and that was no problem. The tour was considerably less expensive than those booked through the cruise ship, but comparing the experience with passengers that booked through the ship, we definitely had an equivalent experience. I would definitely use Breakaway if we ever return to Wrangell and highly recommend them.See more..

He ensures that your family will have a great experience, to the point of following a pod of juvenile humpbacks while they hunted and fed. My family has been visiting the town of Cooper Landing for many years and we always book at least one evening fishing trip for when we are there! John and Heather both do a great job making us feel welcome. John is very knowledgeable and loves to share stories, answer any questions, and help you catch as many fish as possible! John knows all of the hot spots and was able to get a limit of salmon for me and my wife even when we were there more than a week before "prime" fishing! We will definitely be going back. Went on a van tour with Brooke and Vadele (cousins). This excursion was booked through Oceania cruises while visiting Wrangell. They took us to Shake Chief lodge house. There we met an elder who told us of the history of the place and people. Then off to The Wrangell Museum (a must)! Both young women new their history and personal stories to round out the experience. Then off to Petroglyph Beach where we made rubbings and located petroglyphs from time immemorial. A half day glacier visit followed by two days whale watching left us with unforgetable experiences and memories, way beyond our wildest hopes. Captain Kelly was superb! Extremely knowledgeable and thoughtful, making sure that we saw everything and totally respectful of the environment and the wildlife. It was a real pleasure spending time with her. Her knowledge, skill and intuition had us pushing gently through brilliant blue ice to reach the nose of the glacier, watching seals, sea lions, porpoise and eagles, and sitting on deck listening to and watching numerous whales around the five finger islands, seeing their behaviour change as we heard sounds of breaching and fin slapping from the other side of the sound. Just so fascinating and magical! To top it all, Kelly managed to find humpback whales bubble net fishing on both days. Time after time, up to 22 whales dived down, to emerge in a feeding frenzy some minutes later, with the gulls joining in from the air to pick up any herring that escaped the "net". We could not only see it all playing out in front of us, but also hear the whale hunting conversation going on under water through the hydrophone. A truly incredible event to witness first hand. Favorite part of the trip besides catching unbelievable halibut was the attention the crew gave me to my seasickness issues. Boat Captain was a delight and her knowledge of fishing in the ocean is second to none. Salt water fishing can be a little tough on me do to my sensitive sea sickness issues. The Captain and Crew were attentive to the water conditions as to minimize my potential sea sickness concern. The Fishing was wonderful!!! We had a fantastic time on our whale watching excursion. We saw whales bubble net feeding multiple times, sea lions and a very large brown bear! The boat while larger enough has room for only 6 so you are able to enjoy your time without competing for a good view like on some other larger boats I've gone on. Joardan was an excellent captain and guide. We also enjoyed the complementary coffee, snacks and the home made muffins his wife made. If you were an aged angler, you became picky, and you knew it is not easy to find the right fishing guide all the time, especially in new locations. But We were extremely lucky to booked the one with Reubin on our first trip to Kenai River. Reubin is decent and quiet, his voice is gentle, but when you capture each word he whispered, you will realize how precise and expert he is. His boat is clean, the line is crystal and bait is fresh and dedicate treated. We are a group of 10 people including 4 kids, Reubin hosted us with three boats, I was concerned about other two boats since they are less experienced than me. It was much more than just another great fishing trip. The variety of experiences, the natural beauty (lots of whales and bears!), getting to know the incredible Clark family were highlights. The Coho fishing was stellar in several different rivers. The Dolly Varden fishing was something to behold, at times a fish on virtually every cast. Afishunt was amazing for the two days of fishing we had. As an Alaskan I need to address some old reviews of this company. 1. They can not control the weather, the crews will do the best they can to make it a great experience. 2. You are more than likely NOT going to get a 100-200lbs halibut, not saying no one will get it but our biggest fish was 38lbs, you need to be happy with that. 3. This company is a FAMILY, they made us feel safe and kept us engaged the whole time with our 2 boys (7 & 9). Captain Chad and Kyle were both awesome but more importantly is the deckhand who busted his butt to make sure we had a great time. Thank you Noah! I booked with Fisherman’s Choice last minute and they were able to fit my wife and I into a trip to go King salmon fishing easily. Ray was our guide and I couldn’t have asked for a better charter. The scenery was amazing and Ray made sure everyone was set up and had the best fishing equipment they needed for the day. The gear and bait was top notch. Although the catch that day wasn’t quite as bountiful as we expected, Ray made the trip memorable for use and if wasn’t for him I’m not sure we would have had as great of a time. We arrived to Kaktovik on the second week of September to see the polar bears. By Sunny kindly help, we booked a year ahead 5 tours. Sunny was patient to all our requests and organized for us the perfect package for our needs. Jack and Steve were professional guides with a sense of humor and a lot of patience. They gave us warm clothes and navigate the boat to all the places that the bears were. Steve told us a lot about polar bears and their way of life. Before we booked the tours we afraid of the cold weather and the open boat but in the end, it was an advantage! We walked freely on the boat and has a 360-degrees angle for taking pictures. We booked a half day halibut excursion after our previous booking called and cancelled on our group of 3. I was able to get on Captain Eric's boat. While the fishing was slow, we caught one halibut and one type of rock fish, we saw soo many humpback whales, stellar sea lions, herring fluttering on the water, the tour was worth every penny even with the lack of fish reeled in. You cannot guarantee to catch fish. Definitely recommend.See more..
I live and play in Alaska and I've seen and done many of the normal day trips. I had the opportunity to have Capt John and the Tundra bring us on a back country ski trip in Prince William Sound. I've toured around many of the south central ski areas, but this place is incredible. I can't say enough good things. Deepest snow contrasted by Sitka Spruce and tidal lagoons. Pillows, glaciers, you name it. To make it even better, we would come back to the Tundra, and Capt John would have large meals eating for us. All while situated alone in a remote bay with no one else in sigh. There was plenty of room to sleep and lounge. I will 100% do this trip again. the only thing I would change is booking a 4+ day trip instead of a 2 day trip.See more..

This review is late in coming, but I couldn't pass up on the opportunity to give Ketil the rave reviews he deserves! Seeing polar bears has long been on our bucket list, but the thought of fighting the crowds in Churchill had us looking for other options. A friend recommended Ketil and we're so glad she did. We were in Kaktovik the last of August and the first few days of September last year and saw lots of polar bears! Ketil's boat is heated and there is a small bathroom if needed. Take the four hour Danny J ferry out of Homer where they circle around Gull Island, prior to your visit to Halibut Cove. Very knowledgeable people on board this small boat to describe all the animal life. Be sure to have lunch at the Saltry while there. Outstanding cuisine and atmosphere. It was cool and a little rainy, but they had a wood fire going and blankets to put on our laps. A lovely day of walking the boardwalks and visiting galleries. Don't miss it!See more..

Glacier Bay is ever changing and marvelous. We have visited three times and the Bay is different each time. The water is icy clear with chunks of ice floating upon the surface. Most cruise ships spend at least six hours drifting through the quiet Bay. This last time we saw at least six bears, sea lions, whales, and multiple glaciers calving. The Park Rangers are very knowledgeable and patiently point out interesting sights. Alaskan Cruises are very nice, but this is the crowning glory of Alaska.See more..
This is the best Halibut charter on the peninsula. They will hook you up with one of their professional captains and all of them are all about getting alot of huge fish on the boat. They won't just take you to the quickie chicken hole. These guys know where the big ones are on any given day and will take the time to put you on them because they are out there every day. I stayed for a few days and saw alot of big fish get hung by every boat that went out..I saw some happy people come back one day with buckets full of clams too. They of course will also clean, package, freeze, and ship your catch in an onside processing center. I'd recommend staying in the comfy well equipped rooms or cabin the night before and after so you'll be there ready to go and then can chill and enjoy your catch on the excellent firepit, fully stocked BBQ pavillion. We spent 2 wonderful days with Scott on The Pelican and would highly recommend his tours. We did one day of whale watching and one day at the LeConte Glacier. Scott is very experienced with great knowledge of and love for the areas he guides in. He took great care to point out all of the different animals, young birds, and beautiful sights. We saw 50+ whales on our whale watching trip, and even got to see 2 breach! Ron gave an amazing whale tour for our family. The whole trip was around 8.5 hours covering 120 miles. We lost count of how many whales we saw! It was incredible when the engine was turned off and you could hear all the whales from 2 miles away coming up for air. We even got to see the lighthouse and got lots of facts about the surrounding area. Our day was topped off with a breach from a whale at the very end. Wow! If we could give more stars as a rating for captain Katie and captain Brian we would. We visited in May with another couple and had a blast on our fishing charter for Halibut and Salmon. We also went on the Eco tour across the Kachemak Bay and saw the beautiful wildlife. Katie and Brian know so much of the area and went out of their way to make our trip special. Their personal approach and passion for fishing and showing people the sights is what makes this so unforgettable. We caught a ton of fish and had so much fun. Took several excursions in Wrangell with different companies but Muddy Waters was the best. Zach Taylor’s boat was more comfortable. I truly felt that every seat had a good view. Zach himself was very engaging, answering my questions about our destination, Anan Bear Observatory, as well as insights on growing up and choosing to remain in Wrangell. He’s also an honorable person who refunded us on our 2020 aborted trip (Covid lockdown), even though it was non-refundable. His treatment of us then was the determining factor in us renewing our Wrangell trip in 2021. 100% recommend his company.See more..

even though it was a rainy day we got to see a lot of birds and seals on south marble island and mountain goats on another island. we passed quite a few humpback whales on the way to john hopkin's glacier. we picked up 2 kayakers on another island and saw a coastal bear and some even saw a wolf (1st one for this season for our national park guide). I love that there were a couple of seals bobbing along the shoreline as we were loading the kayaks on the boat. Both the crew and national park guide were awesome. Lunch was included in the cost and free hot drinks were available throughout the trip. Bathrooms were very clean as well as the inside cabin and outside deck area of the boat. as it was the end of the season the boat wasn't full and passengers had an opportunity to talk to each other. we even got to see how the park guides got picked up and dropped off from the huge cruise ship. So glad we found this place—we were able to rent a very stable, comfortable double kayak for several hours of beautiful paddling on a stunning lake surrounded by mountains. Teniya, owner of Night N Gale Charters was like watching a fine dancer, fluid motion always ready to help and used his expertise to make our trip successful. We went a second day we had such a great experience. The fishing was excellent the captain was wonderful and very helpful. Though its hard to predict what the fishing conditions would be…the captain was very knowledgeable and experienced. He had different lines setup and ready to go….if one didn’t work he always had another at the ready. Watching him was poetry in motion. We were very successful in our fishing we caught several fish and went for an extra day. It is important to note that our captain included cleaning the fish and packing it. Some companies charge extra…it is always good to know going in.See more..
We went on a whale watching tour with Stephanie whilst visiting Prince of Wales Island. We saw several Whales and seals (but no bears :-). Stephanie was extremely knowledgeable, professional and friendly. Would recommend to anyone visiting POW Island.See more..
