The beach was nice to walk. If going be sure to bring layers and rain clothes though. A beach different than on the lower 48. Found lots of large sea animal bones. Definitely go for a swim! It’s invigorating!See more..

4.5Chena Lake Recreation Area(37 reviews) - Spectacular viewing location for the Northern Lights Spent More than 3 hours Beaches • Dams • Playgrounds
This was a beautiful and serene place to walk along the lake on a beautiful fall day, but it was an absolutely spectacular place to view the Aurora Borealis! The best viewing spot was a picnic area north of the boat launch parking lot. There is a short path through the woods leading to the lake, and it was a perfect dark spot away from the motion detecting lights in the parking lot. We had an amazing view of the north sky, with the reflection of the northern lights in the lake's surface!See more..
4.5Rotary Beach(30 reviews) - Fun Adventure Beaches
Wanted something different to do, so after the Duck tours, we took the Silver line to Rotary Beach stop and enjoyed searching for starfish and other creatures. Ask your bus driver where the pick up is before getting off! It will cost $2 per person both ways!See more..
5.0Anchor River State Recreation Area(28 reviews) - Great stop for a beach walk and eagle viewing Spent 2-3 hours State Parks • Beaches • Nature & Wildlife Areas
On our way to 'North America's most westerly highway point' we discovered this great spot. Drive all the way to the end of Anchor River Road. There you'll find a small parking lot (near the boat launch) and you have easy access to the beach. When you go for a beach walk, be sure to check the tide! It's a very good place to watch eagles (on the beach and in the trees). Across Cook Inlet you can see three volcanoes: Mount Augustine, Mount Iliamna, and Mount Redoubt. (next to Halibut Campground)See more..
The day we went the weather on the beach was unpleasant—very windy and cold despite it being sunny and 75 degrees in Kodiak. So we didn’t walk the beach like we would have otherwise. There was a seal in the surf which was cool. The drive is gorgeous and Pagashak Bay has so many birds even in terrible weather. The road was only bad at the very end, maybe the last quarter mile. Big potholes but mostly avoidable and you could always park and walk if they’ve gotten worse. It looked like great beach walking at low tide and we will definitely be back on our next trip.See more..
