Nice area
Nice area with well maintained walking trails. You can see eagles here too. The rivers close by a nice too. Great way to get out of the city and see other parts of Juneau. You will need a car to access this area.

Eagles everywhere
I knew Eagle beach was named for the Eagles but I had no idea how many Eagles are actually there. They are everywhere you look. The trails are well maintained and run alongside the water. There is also a trail that runs through the campground and cabins. There are small pavilions and fire pits to grill to have a picnic. Great place to spend the day out of town.

Beautiful Natural Area with Good Opportunity for Wildlife Viewing
Visiting in the very beginning of August, we arrived at what appeared to be the tail end of the most recent salmon run as there were only a few stragglers still trying to make their way upstream among the dead and dying salmon so we only saw a few juvenile bald eagles that remained behind; however, we did get to see many gulls, a couple harbor seals and even a bear feeding on what remained with little competition. Even if we did not get to see the wildlife we did see, beautiful Eagle Beach would have still been worth a stop with the trees, wildflowers and views of mountains and glaciers on the other side. We were fortunate to visit on a warm, sunny day so fog hovered above the cold water creating a surrealistic scene at times. Located well north of downtown (about 25 miles, 40k), we had the beach virtually to ourselves and we enjoyed a peaceful short hike along the Eagle River. Arriving into Juneau by cruise ship, to get to Eagle Beach while saving lots of money, we rented a car from the local, family-run Juneau Car Rental which has an office right at the cruise ship dock. While the car was well “broken-in” with 151,000 miles (over 243,000k), it was cheap and got us to and from Eagle Beach, the salmon hatchery, Mendenhall Glacier, and several other stops without any issue.
