So privileged to visit Chief Shakes house on a day when the building was open. We were entertained and educated with song, dance, and storytelling. Stunning building that should be a source of pride to the local Tlingit people. See more..
  3. 4.5 Chichagof Island (27 reviews)
    - Chichagof Island is not in Juneau.....
    Islands
    Chichagof Island image
The map on this page is incorrect......Chichagof Island is over 70 miles away by boat or air from Juneau....... People planning trips to Alaska need to be informed about the facts and logistics of getting to different places........it is so misleading to place Chichagof Island on a map of Juneau when that is just not the case......and it is not an "attraction" but a place....... 5. 4.5 Little Diomede Island (3 reviews)
    - A unique part of USA
Spent More than 3 hours Islands
    Little Diomede Island image
Little Diomede Island is unique in so many ways and has a lot to offer visitors with many different interests. Its not easy to get to in either summer or winter but don't let that put you off. That is what makes it so unique and so interesting. People with mobility issues will find this hard, verging on impossible, especially in winter so please be sensible. Snow in winter can be many feet deep and oaths are steep. The local people are modest and sometimes shy so be polite and ask before snapping away on your camera. There are no restaurants and no public facilities on the island but there is a small shop (limited opening hours) and also a basic medical facility. The best place to head if you need help or advice is the school building. Its an amazing place to visit and my advice is that if you are going, get in touch with the island before hand so that they know and can help out when you get there. It took me 5 flights from where I live but I really hope to get back there again. See more..
  6. 5.0 Round Island (2 reviews)
    - Unbelievable.
    Islands
This is one of the difficult attractions to get to. From Anchorage you have to fly 350 miles Southwest to a town called Dillingham. From there you take a boat to the island. If you love nature and the Walrus, this is the place to be. I would like to say there is so much more to do, but there isn't. Eagles, all sorts of birds and Fauna. The weather in Bristlol Bay can be very lousy, so come prepared. See more..

  8. 4.0 Evan Island (1 review)
    - Chenega, AK formerly Chenega Bay a remote village in PWS
Spent More than 3 hours Islands
Chenega is a small village of less than 70 people in Prince William Sound. The lodge of Eshamy Bay is being renovated currently. The island offers breath taking views and great wildlife viewing. If traveling by boat from Whittier it takes about 2 hours and you can see orcas, humpbacks, porpoises, black porpoises, otters, seals, and sea lions, If flying by air from Anchorage the flight is less than an hour with good conditions. Flights currently are Monday, Wed., Friday through Alaska Air Transit, but charters are also possible through other local companies. There is no store on the island. The community has a community center, school, post office, and beautiful Russian Orthodox Church painted and tiled by two artists from Greece. Brown bear hunting on nearby Montague Island is popular as is fishing in the Prince William Sound. The island has power, water, sewer, cell service, and internet. In Oct. 2018 At&T will take over telecommunication ownership for the area. This area would provide a good base for those escaping bad weather on the sound or needing stretch there legs. See more..
