This is very close to Juneau area. Very good access both hiking and parking. Easy access to glacier and hiking trails. Nugget falls is a must do. Easy flat hike to get right up to the glacier and falls. We went in April and there was still some ice and snow on the trail. We didn't have spikes or crampons but was easily done with hiking boots. Absolutely amazing views and you can literally walk right up to the falls. Great views even if you don't hike. The visitors center was closed and opens end of May. Parking lot is a great, dark place to view the Northern Lights. We saw a little of the lights at around midnight.See more..
5.0Brooks Falls(330 reviews) - Day trip to Brooks Falls Waterfalls
Area on the Brooks River where a large number of brown bears spend their summer due to salmon migration.See more..
We did this hike to the upper falls during our time in Cooper Landing. This is an easy 5.2 miles (out & back) hike with beautiful falls at the end. Parking can be difficult - so I recommend coming early. Others we passed saw a bear and 3 cubs - but we missed them. The views are beautiful and watching the water - and salmon jumping is mesmerizing. See more..
4.5Pitchfork Falls(40 reviews) - Natures beauty and a man made snake Waterfalls
We didn't see this water fall close up. On our way to Yukon Suspension Bridge, we made a stop to see this beauty on the opposite side of the Klondike Highway. From afar I can see it more complete and much better. The water flowing from Goat Lake to Skagway River, the water falls do look like a pitchfork. Not too far from the falls, I also saw a man made snake, (a pipeline visible from across the valley, where we were) I asked our guide and driver, he said that is a hydroelectric project, providing electricity to the community of Skagway. That is an unique site to see. Happy Travelling!See more..
It may not be a super hot attraction, but if you're in Seward for longer than a week, plan to spend at least a few minutes down here at the falls. Beautiful, loud, refreshingly cold, stunning. In the summer I love to come down here and just stare at the water and spray.See more..
A visit to Pioneer Falls is well worth the time and effort. Finding it is a bit of a challenge. We set Google Maps to "Pioneer Falls Trailhead"; the trick was knowing that when Google says we arrived, we had to turn into a narrow gravel driveway with an unmarked mailbox. Just 100 yards up the gravel driveway, we arrived at an oval gravel parking area. As we exited the car, we could hear the roar of the rushing water. The trail is obvious, though not groomed, so care is needed over rocks and roots. The trail cuts through lush forest and stops at a narrow viewpoint next to the cascading falls. Being adventurous, we continued up a steep rocky trail and were rewarded with spectacular views of larger cascades. Note: I do not recommend this activity for small children since the views are restricted and the rocky edge must be respected.See more..
