Russian River Falls, Alaska, United States

4.5 (133 reviews) Spent 1-2 hours Ranking #1 in Cooper Landing Waterfalls

Nice Hike

We did this hike to the upper falls during our time in Cooper Landing. This is an easy 5.2 miles (out & back) hike with beautiful falls at the end. Parking can be difficult - so I recommend coming early. Others we passed saw a bear and 3 cubs - but we missed them. The views are beautiful and watching the water - and salmon jumping is mesmerizing.

    Easy hike
This hike is a great stop between Anchorage and Seward. We parked in the lower lot and walked up a steep path to the main trail, which is gravel. It is about 2.3 miles each way, and there are two viewing platforms above the water. We saw salmon jumping, as well as a bear that came out of the woods briefly. There were quite a few people on the trail, so I imagine that it would be even more crowded when it is normal tourist season. The only downfall was that parking was $11.

    Nice hike
We liked this 5-mile round trip hike through the woods. It’s relatively easy and well-marked. It doesn’t have the jaw-dropping scenery or panoramic views that some other Alaskan hikes have, but it’s still nice. And seeing the salmon jump as they try to make their way up the falls is a sight worth seeing. I wouldn’t plan a trip around this hike, but if you’re in the area and have a few hours available it’s definitely worth doing.
