This state park displays 14 totem poles from the Tlingit and Haida tribes. The park is exceptionally scenic as the well maintained path meanders through the woods and opens out to the water. An example of a tribal house is located at the waters edge. Admission is only $5 pp (well worth it) and includes an interpretive guide regarding the meaning of the poles and where they were from. The park is approximately 10 miles from downtown Ketchikan and is easily reached by the Silver Line public bus. Highly recommend a visit ( plan about an hour),See more..
While vacationing in Sitka on May 26, 2022, my wife and I visited the Sitka National Historic Park. There is no admission fee. The park was established to commemorate the 1804 Battle of Sitka between Russians and Tlingit's. A small museum contains a theatre with a 12 minute video about the Russian-Tlingit conflict. For me the reason to visit the park is to walk the trails through the rainforest. Scattered along the trails are totem poles. We visited on a beautiful, sunny day and just took a nice, relaxing stroll through the forest.See more..

5.0Denali State Park(92 reviews) - K'esugi Ken Campground - outstanding Spent 1-2 hours State Parks • Nature & Wildlife Areas
Denali State Park - K'esugi Ken Campground - outstanding campground. We rented a RV space (with electric, fire pit, picnic table, but no water or dump). The campground was beautiful, spacious, and heavily wooded. Great fire pit with metal grate for cooking. Well maintained. Would highly recommend staying here on the way in or out of Denali National Park. It was just $28 plus $2 fee for booking online (ReserveAmerica.com).See more..
4.0Talkeetna Riverfront Park(66 reviews) - Lots of activity Saturday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent 1-2 hours State Parks
I love sitting on a rock on the berm of the river. We were able to see the river in a lower state and as the rains came the river rose. I was able to see the salmon running up along side the banks of the river. I was able to watch people fishing and observe how salmon fishing is a little different than fishing other kinds of fish. It was fun to people watch at all different times of day. We were in Talkeetna for a week and were busy everyday. I recommend a week stay minimal to really get into the life here.See more..
A relative who lives near Sutton recommended we visit here for beautiful views of the glacier, and it was great! The glacier view trail is an easy, one-mile loop that provides excellent views of the glacier and surrounding area. The trail not only has specific overlooks for viewing, but it also has placards/signage along the route that provide educational information about glacial formation and the area in general. It was very rainy when we visited, but the views were still breathtaking. Definitely worth a stop!See more..
5.0Anchor River State Recreation Area(28 reviews) - Great stop for a beach walk and eagle viewing Spent 2-3 hours State Parks • Beaches • Nature & Wildlife Areas
On our way to 'North America's most westerly highway point' we discovered this great spot. Drive all the way to the end of Anchor River Road. There you'll find a small parking lot (near the boat launch) and you have easy access to the beach. When you go for a beach walk, be sure to check the tide! It's a very good place to watch eagles (on the beach and in the trees). Across Cook Inlet you can see three volcanoes: Mount Augustine, Mount Iliamna, and Mount Redoubt. (next to Halibut Campground)See more..
5.0Chilkat State Park(22 reviews) - Great views! Spent 2-3 hours State Parks
Getting there required going over a gravel road full of very deep potholes then going down a very steep hill with sharp switch back turns. Twice as bad coming back out. Use 4 wheel drive (if you have it ) to make the climb easier through all the large ruts. The view of rainbow glacier was worth it! Be sure to go in the morning so the sun is on the glacier for great pictures. See more..
5.0Government Peak Recreation Area(15 reviews) - Amazing and breathtaking scenery and area Spent More than 3 hours State Parks
Did I say it was "Amazing and breathtaking scenery and area". A 25 minute drive from Palmer brings you to the foot of 2 absolutely naturally wonderful areas to drive, see, absorb and photograph. The 2 areas are Government peak and Hatcher's pass. Thoroughly recommend this area to visit. You will need your own transport, not sure if there is public transport or tour guides/excursions. Plan to spend 3 to 4 hours as a minimum.See more..
This place is a hidden gem. We only had time to walk the shorter Glacier View Trail, but it was a very pleasant outing with fireweed lining the trails and views of the glaciers across the bay. There were only a few other visitors so we had the place pretty much to ourselves. Very enjoyable!See more..

5.0Kayak Island State Marine Park(1 review) - One of most dynamic spots on Pacific Rim State Parks • Bodies of Water Access is a challenge, but if you go you'll have 22 mile long island all to yourself. History, nature, wilderness, beyond category beach combing. It's hard to believe that brown bears can leave a permanent trail in 12-iinch beach cobbles, even when you see it. . Cape St. Elias and it's lighthouse are incomparable. See more..
5.0Canoe Passage State Marine Park(1 review) - Sparkling Ocean Waters and Alaskan Marine Life State Parks • Bodies of Water You arrive by boat, a good day's trip from Cordova. The wild life and natural phenomena you can see on your way is numerous; sea mammals seals and sea lions, whales, pelagic birds of all sorts. A sunny day is a must, preferably while the fish are not running because the creek at the head of the bay is heavily populated with bears feeding on salmon. There are a few people nearby at homesites but no commerce, stores etc. or other amenities of civilization outside of Cordova, This is wilderness and the best Cordova has to offer in Alaska experience. Be sure to obey laws of pack in-pack out and good sportsmanship. This place has a lot of history and there are century-old reminders of long past human presence and experience; fox farms, fisheries and even indigenous fish camps so be respectful of this old time and ancient history. Leave things as they are. Enjoy the things that are there, plants and wildflowers but respect them so others can enjoy them too.See more..
5.0Sawmill Bay State Marine Park(1 review) - Kayaking Adventure State Parks • Bodies of Water We spent the night in Sawmill Bay with Aurelia Charters and kayaked around the bay for a few hours in the evening.
