Great Stop!
A relative who lives near Sutton recommended we visit here for beautiful views of the glacier, and it was great! The glacier view trail is an easy, one-mile loop that provides excellent views of the glacier and surrounding area. The trail not only has specific overlooks for viewing, but it also has placards/signage along the route that provide educational information about glacial formation and the area in general. It was very rainy when we visited, but the views were still breathtaking. Definitely worth a stop!

Hiking through the Matanuska Glacier
This was a spectacular hike through the terminus of the 27 mile long Matanuska glacier. We arrived at the glacier early in the morning and were provided with crampons and a wonderful guide. The hike was approximately 2 miles long through ice fields that were beautifully colored in hues of blue and black. Areas were like climbing through slot canyons made of ice. At the end of the hike we were picked up by a snowmobile driven sled. It was a wonderful morning.

Highlight of the trip
This was my second trip to Matanuska Glacier. As before, it was the highlight of the trip. We went to Exit and Byron Glaciers also, but those pale in comparison. The glacier is ice so it is nearly impossible to walk in without glampons.
