Great stop for a beach walk and eagle viewing
On our way to 'North America's most westerly highway point' we discovered this great spot. Drive all the way to the end of Anchor River Road. There you'll find a small parking lot (near the boat launch) and you have easy access to the beach. When you go for a beach walk, be sure to check the tide! It's a very good place to watch eagles (on the beach and in the trees). Across Cook Inlet you can see three volcanoes: Mount Augustine, Mount Iliamna, and Mount Redoubt. (next to Halibut Campground)

Bald eagle lovers - Anchor Point is a must stop!!!
We stayed in Homer for 2 nights in late July. We visited Anchor Point 3 times during our stay because the bird viewing there was simply fantastic. On Day 1, we saw 2 bald eagles standing on the beach close to the water. They were scanning the sea for fish. But as it was a Sunday, the beach was crowded and the eagles flied away without any fishing. We liked it here so much that we returned on Day 2. The efforts paid off very well, we saw 4 bald eagles including 2 juveniles. An adult eagle caught a fish, dropped it, then went on to catch a bird. It then handed over the prey to the juvenile while it stood quietly letting the juvenile enjoy the meal. The viewing was unbelievably dramatic. We took hundreds of great photos :-)) We also saw pick-up trucks on the beach on both Day 1 & 2. They seemed to be local fishermen and they fed the gulls. It was an opportunity for good photos as there were hundreds of birds following the truck and dogs chasing the birds. Some small suggestions: - On Day 1 and 2, we went there at 5-6pm and the eagles were there. On day 3, we could only go in the morning as we left Homer for Seward, no eagles. So from our limited experience, it seemed 5-6pm was a better timing for viewing. - If the beach is crowded and/or if anyone gets too close to the eagle, it will fly away as one can expect. So keep your distance! - Parking - there are 2 parking lots when you reach end of the road towards the beach. They are pretty close to one another. But take the one on the left. You can find eco toilets here (but not the other) and there is an interesting sign board that says "North America's Most Westerly Highway Point" :-)))

Photo Op and tractors
We had to get our photo taken at the "Most Westerly Highway Point" sign and while there we watched the tractors/skidders drive out at low tide to bring the fishing boats in on their trailers. Just one more thing on our trip that we had never seen before.
