Magoun Islands State Marine Park, Alaska, United States

4.5 (3 reviews) Spent Ranking #22 in Sitka State Parks

Enchanting remote islands

Our Uncruise cruise ship anchored here for a day. We took an unforgettable kayaking adventure amongst the islands where we were treated to watching a small group of grey whales which are not known for visiting this area. We also were treated to bald eagles perched in trees all around us.

Great spot for camping a kayaking
I was here in may for the herring spawn, and it was fantastic. The little nooks you can tuck into with a kayak, lots of potential landings for camping or exploring. There are a few nice anchorages for larger boats in the islands that are out of the weather and swell. The geology is mostly granite making it a little different from in town. After taking a group of photographers for a low tide walk I really started to appreciate the unique quality to this little park.

Beautiful scenery but little marine life.
Our "UnCruise" small boat cruise stopped here for the day. We kayaked and bushwhacked. Beautiful setting with numerous islands. Unfortunately, we didn't see the marine wildlife we were hoping for.
