If you can handle a couple of miles of gravel road, you're rewarded with a nice lake & a free night of camping.

Fielding Lake
Great place to spend some time, but caution. Fielding lake is near Delta Junction (Fairbanks) area, not near Valdez.

Nice campground off the road
This is a nice place to stop for either a picnic or camping if you are traveling along the Richardson Highway but it is NOT close to Valdez (between Delta Junction and Paxson). It is in the Alaska Range right about tree line so the views are great. There is usually a breeze to keep mosquitoes away but it can be very buggy otherwise. Expect pit toilets and water pump, nothing else. There is a cabin that can be rented but we always camp so I cannot comment on that. Lots of room for RVs and a few walk in tent sites. It is located about 2 miles off of the Richardson Highway on a dirt road making it very quiet.
