Thank you so much Peter, for letting us have a respectful look inside at your beautiful sanctuary. We felt the peace inside. Your shop was lovely and it meant much that you kissed the item we purchased. Your Faith is evident, and it was refreshing that the group of us there of differing faiths were fully immersed in learning about our different cultures thru radiating conversation. How wonderful!See more..
This Russian Orthodox Church is a beautiful National Historical Site. Initially the Church was locked, but the gift shop was open. The attendant was pleasant and knowledgeable. Because she did not have any other customers she showed us the inside of the Church. For me, this was the first time I've been in an Orthodox Church and found it quite moving. From the Icons to the architect this is well worth a few minutes of your time. ( I should note that the Church is kept locked. Not everyone who visits may have the opportunity to see the inside, but even a walk around the outside is worth a stop.)See more..
I was born and raised in Alaska, and this is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to! The church is on a place overlooking a quaint little village settled alongside the inlet. It makes you feel like you just stepped into a 19th-century novel! This is a great place to stop for a picnic, read a book, or peruse the gravestones. Locals might notice some familiar ancestral names. I would recommend going on a warm and sunny day (as we did) if possible, but I'm sure it will be enjoyable in other weather. Two things to note: First, visitors CANNOT enter the church itself. You can still go inside the churchyard, though! Second, there's a whole lot of cow parsnip growing across the road from it, so be careful! It's likely to cause a rash if it comes in contact with your skin. We found this out the hard way.See more..

This is the one site on Unalaska Island we HAD to see. A kindly local gave us a ride in the back of his pickup out to the church, and we walked the 6 miles back to the ferry in Dutch Harbor. Wish we could have gone inside, but Covid... Nothing to do here but take in the sights, 15 minutes max. Could definitely use a coat of paint - since the church is now on the Register of Historic Sites, it'd be a shame if it deteriorated any further. The similar Holy Resurrection ROC on Kodiak Island is better looking, but this one has a better setting.See more..
