We, as a group of 18 neighbors, were lucky to have Dave, Tyler and Barbara as our drivers and guides for the Heritage Tour of Fairbanks one day; Chena Hot Springs and Northern Lights Tour another day: Aurora Viewing Cabin still another day: and finally for the Arctic Circle Trip. They packed a lot of vacation into one week for us. All were very attentive to our needs as an "active adult" (read senior) group! The information/narration along the way was excellent. They were always punctual when it came to picking us up at our lodge. Although we did not see the full Auroras, we did get a glimpse of them on the Arctic Circle Trip. The entire experience was amazing. We got there a couple hours before the cruise was going to leave so we walked around Whittier which was so fun. Going through the tunnel to get to Whittier was also pretty exhilarating! The cruise itself was perfect (26 glacier tour). We saw a lot of wildlife (whales, otters, seals and dolphins) and the cruise was so smooth. Our ship was from NYC and had a lot of history which was really interesting. Thankful they shared that history with us. No one got sea sick because the ship rides so smooth but also travels at 36 knots which is a pretty healthy speed. We got great pictures of the glaciers and really enjoyed the chowder that was provided for us. I highly recommend experiencing the 26 glacier tour in Whittier, as I have no negative feedback about the entire experience!See more..

Betsy, our tour guide was wonderful. She made the glacier hike a memorable experience for our 11 year old son and us. I would recommend Nova over Mica guides. We had a flat tire and missed our prepaid glacier hike with Mica guides. Mica had spots available on a later tour the same day but wanted us to pay $300 again to rebook. Be careful if you book with Mica in advance. They will take your money and throw their nonrefundable policy at you. Nova on the other hand gave us a 10% discount because after learning about the day we had without us even asking. Nova also does not charge full price for children under 12. Nova is a company with great customer service. Highly recommend them!See more..

My husband and I did the 10am mushing tour, and we loved it! We were able to ride on the same sled. Our guide musher, Matt, was fantastic, had a great attitude, answered all of our questions and told us about each dog that was getting attached to the gangline. It was interesting to see the strategy of lining up a team of dogs. Part of the time is spent socializing with the dogs as they prep for the mushing tour and then other time spent on the trail. The dogs were so excited to get running and clearly love pulling. If you stand on the foot boards on the back of the sled, be prepared to put in a little effort in going up hills. I rode in the sled so didn't have to do much work (held on tight). It felt like a really fun rollercoaster ride at times since it wasn't always flat during the tour which made it very fun. The scenery is beautiful through the snowy woods. This is a must do on a trip to Alaska!See more..

Over the years I’ve enjoyed fishing with guides all over the country and now that my daughter is old enough, 10 yrs, to also truly enjoy the experience as well, we have started taking trips together. After some research we booked with Brad at AKFFF and we were extremely glad we did. We spend a beautiful day floating down two different rivers chasing rainbows. It was a bit chilly first thing in the morning and Brad let my daughter use his wife’s gloves which she really appreciated. He was extremely knowledgeable and patient with our mostly novice fly fishing group as we quickly improved enough to all fight nice rainbows in some of the most beautiful scenery in the country! If I’m ever fortunate enough to find myself in Alaska again I’ll be looking up Brad at Alaska Kenai Fishing for Fun for another great day on the water! 1/2 Day Fishing the Kenai River with J.J. We got lucky, we didn't know any guides so we left it up to the company. We fished with J.J. and it couldn't have turned out any better. All 4 of us were pretty much river fishing novices, JJ was a great instructor and has patience and knows what he's doing. Very laid back but constantly teaching and notices everything going on around him on the river. We caught 9 Sockeye in a short amount of time, lost as many but had the time of our lives out there. JJ knows where to find the fish and knows the best techniques, he's energetic and active, great with the net and will chase your fish way downstream if necessary. Highly recommend this trip, next time will be a full day, with JJ. Take a trip with JJ, you will not be disappointed.See more..

Wow! Alaska troutfitters was AMAZING! We did a guided fly out with Sam. He was perfect. I am not very experienced so he gave me tips and pointers along the way without being pushy. My husband (who is much more experienced) was given Alaska specific guidance and advanced techniques. We caught loads of Grayling and had an unforgettable day on the water. We also rented gear from the fly shop for the next two days. Sam and those in the shop have us great tips and suggested hike in fishing holes. All proved to be great recommendations. I booked with Fisherman’s Choice last minute and they were able to fit my wife and I into a trip to go King salmon fishing easily. Ray was our guide and I couldn’t have asked for a better charter. The scenery was amazing and Ray made sure everyone was set up and had the best fishing equipment they needed for the day. The gear and bait was top notch. Although the catch that day wasn’t quite as bountiful as we expected, Ray made the trip memorable for use and if wasn’t for him I’m not sure we would have had as great of a time. We visited Icy Straight Point on our Celebrity Cruise at the end of July and were looking for something to do away from the cruise ship. This was a great option! Cody and his team were fantastic! We loved the beautiful scenery and all of the history of the Hoonah people we learned. The kayak and gear were all in great condition, but the staff of Fairweather Kayak Tours are what really made the experience incredible. My wife and I went to the St. Michael's Russian Orthodox Church. The older part of the church where services were formerly conducted was open to visitors. The walls on the inside of the church are covered with beautiful religious icons. So many that it is almost overwhelming. There are paintings, tapestries and some icons crafted in metal. Don't miss St. Michaels. A street next to the church was closed to traffic and the shops along both sides of that street were great. Whether you are looking for apparel, souvenirs or even a pharmacy, they are all there. The local people were all very nice and friendly. We are planning to go back in 2024.See more..

I’m 61 and have done a bunch of whitewater trips over the years, including the Grand Canyon, all the canyons of the Rio Grande in TX, New River in WV, West Canyon in Utah, the Oconee in TN and a bunch I can’t remember. Six Mile beats them all. It has big features, sweet canyons, and is very technical, not to mention completely gorgeous. Scott and the guys at Flow AK are beyond expert and professional — the best I’ve ever encountered. Viking Travel and agent Fini gave us a wonderful experience. We did not want to cruise Alaska's Inside Passage and found the Marine Highway ferry system very complicated to string together our destinations. We wanted to spend more time in the small towns and seeing wildlife instead of on the cruise boat. Fini took our destinations and created an efficient itineary to visit 5 stops. She came up with fanscinating side trips which we were not aware of within our itinery. We still had much time to explore on our own: parks, museums and hiking. The accommodations had local flavor and great location. Saw Juneau, Sitka, Glacier Bay, Skagway and Haines. No gliches! Well done.See more..
My sister and I with our families recently did a Northern Lights trip with Steven during a vacation/bucket list trip to Fairbanks/North Pole. It was absolutely the highlight of our trip! We booked the multi-night option, and I'm so glad Steven recommended this. It was cloudy the first couple of nights, and Steven was great about contacting us each morning to let us know the forecast for the rest of our trip. On the third night, the forecast was clear, so we went for it. Steven picked us up at our Air BnB in a van that fit all 9 of us. We drove 30-45 mins outside of Fairbanks to a frozen lake that he was familiar with. As soon as we arrived, the skies lit up...it was unlike anything any of us had ever seen...remarkable! We loved that he is an expert photographer, and he got some fantastic shots of us. He also helped the one photographer in the group set up her camera and tripod to get the best shots. The rest of us used our iphones and actually got some decent pics too, although nowhere near the quality of what Steven did. We'd love to come back in the summertime for backcountry hiking with Steven, as he really knows the area quite well.See more..
I've done a few tours with this company and they've always been really great. I did the half-day glacial hike and felt like I saw so much and it was an amazing. I did a guide in August with a friend and September with my parents and just the changes in the glacier within a month was amazing to see. You can also really tell the guides are well informed and passionate and love being guides here. You really can't go wrong with any tour. As my step-dad said: "I did something I didn't know needed to be on my bucket list!" I also did an ice climbing tour with the guide Tristan. We booked last minute with Luke and we were so glad we did. Don't book through the cruise companies, they don't take you far, only up the road to the river with a bus full of people and charge you through the nose for it. Our tour was small and personal. Luke went above and beyond to find us some bears, he even extended the time we had booked to about 6 hours! We went out into the backcountry and off-roads, stopping at various scenic rivers as we went. Luke took us to the stunning Bear Paw Lake for a snack with his own smoked and maple syrup glazed salmon. We did in fact find lots of bear paws! Luke made the entire journey entertaining with funny stories and humour. Greg was amazing. He took us on a 3 hour tour and the whole time we felt safe and well informed. We saw Bears, Deer and Eagles and Greg was a great guide also showing us the town of Hoona. We passed several tour groups who had not seen any bears and their vans were filled with people where-as we had lots of space in Greg's van. Took a tour to the Leconte Glacier near Petersburg, Alaska. What a great experience! We were able to get very close to the face of the glacier after cruising up the fjord through many icebergs. This could never be done on a large ship. Seek’s all metal boat holds about 12 passengers and offers fairly comfortable seating and spectacular outside viewing.
