A snowy rollercoaster ride through the woods!

My husband and I did the 10am mushing tour, and we loved it! We were able to ride on the same sled. Our guide musher, Matt, was fantastic, had a great attitude, answered all of our questions and told us about each dog that was getting attached to the gangline. It was interesting to see the strategy of lining up a team of dogs. Part of the time is spent socializing with the dogs as they prep for the mushing tour and then other time spent on the trail. The dogs were so excited to get running and clearly love pulling. If you stand on the foot boards on the back of the sled, be prepared to put in a little effort in going up hills. I rode in the sled so didn't have to do much work (held on tight). It felt like a really fun rollercoaster ride at times since it wasn't always flat during the tour which made it very fun. The scenery is beautiful through the snowy woods. This is a must do on a trip to Alaska!

    A great snowmobiling experience
We booked the three-hour snowmobile ride and had a great time. The snowmobiles seemed relatively new and in great condition. The heated handgrips are a lifesaver and the rate included our helmet, goggles, snowsuit, and boots. Gloves were also available for those who needed them. I didn't ask but bring a balaclava or good scarf, as the wind chill can get your face. I brought a cap to wear under my helmet but they may have had some of those if needed. Patty was a great guide and they did a good job instructing us on operating the machines and safety requirements. The staff were all very nice and helpful.

    Have Fun, Just Go!
What's there to rave about that hasn't already been raved about by others? I've been taking family and friends to Snowhook to experience slices of Alaska for the last few years and had the good fortune to be part of a group of 9 this weekend and head out on their afternoon ATV tour with Kohle and Randy. From the beginning I knew it was going to be a great day. Arriving at the main property to check in, Marianne immediately recognized me from prior visits and made me feel like a VIP - my friends thought it was pretty cool and I did, too! After a small chat and issuance of gear, we were given directions to the trip starting point in Hatcher Pass and set off to catch up with the rest of the group that had already arrived a few minutes earlier. Once on the Hatcher Pass property, we were greeted by one of the Snowhook principles, Rebecca (hands-down my mother's favorite person), who then introduced us to Kohle who would be our guide and get us caught up with the main group who had already set off down the trails. Kohle was funny and professional, giving us all safety instructions in operating our ATV and UTVs, telling us we'd be finding the snow pack, crossing water, and enjoying the beautiful scenery that the area has to offer. After we all signaled we were comfortable with operating the machinery, off we went! Heading up Hatcher Pass road, we very quickly caught up with the main group, waved to our friends who were already part of the group, and got down to having a blast. We immediately got soaked going through two huge muddy areas and it was so much fun. Waves of water washing over the hood of the machines and into the cabin set everyone off in squeals of glee, priming us for the additional water crossings to come. Water was running high from snow melt off higher in the mountain and it's impossible to truly tell how much fun it is bouncing through, following another guide, Randy, who signaled to the group when to take it easy to cross and when to just let it rip and have some fun. Heading up into the mountains we had a rest at a beautiful waterfall and Randy gave a history lesson about the different working mines and claims in the area. What a treat to learn about and see! Kohle took people up the trail to see a mine entrance and all the guides were happy to take photos for everyone. Someone brought some caribou pepperoni sticks and shared with the group - too fun! After exploring the area on foot and enjoying every moment, we all loaded back into our trusty chariots of fun and continued on, rocking and rolling through the thick brush and making water crossings with great big smiles on our faces. The time flew by and before we knew it, it was time to return to the starting area where we were once again greeted by Rebecca (did I say she's my mother's favorite?) who asked about our experience and shared some stories of the trail before we parted ways with friendly goodbyes, more group photos, and promises that we'd be back. I'm already planning my next tour for later this summer. Hope to see you there!
