Chasing Rainbows

Over the years I’ve enjoyed fishing with guides all over the country and now that my daughter is old enough, 10 yrs, to also truly enjoy the experience as well, we have started taking trips together. After some research we booked with Brad at AKFFF and we were extremely glad we did. We spend a beautiful day floating down two different rivers chasing rainbows. It was a bit chilly first thing in the morning and Brad let my daughter use his wife’s gloves which she really appreciated. He was extremely knowledgeable and patient with our mostly novice fly fishing group as we quickly improved enough to all fight nice rainbows in some of the most beautiful scenery in the country! If I’m ever fortunate enough to find myself in Alaska again I’ll be looking up Brad at Alaska Kenai Fishing for Fun for another great day on the water! Btw, my daughter told me she enjoyed our day with Brad the most out of a full week long of fishing in Alaska. I would rate 6 stars if I could.

Great day of fishing on the Russian River
We booked a half-day of salmon fishing on the Russian River with Brad during our family vacation in Alaska. We booked with Brad because his website said that he enjoys teaching kids to fish, and we found that to be true. None of us had fished for salmon before, but Brad did a great job teaching us the technique so that we all caught at least one fish by the end of the day. Brad was very patient with our kids (ages 12, 15 and 18) to help them figure it out, and they all said it was one of their favorite things we did on the trip. Brad definitely knows his stuff. He said we needed to be at the river by 4 am to start fishing. After some grumbling, we agreed, and we were glad that we did because the best fishing was before 6 am. When we left at 8 am with 8 fish, there were lots of people fishing, but nobody was catching anything. I would highly recommend fishing with Brad.

    Salmon adventure
Took my two adult sons on a two week Alaska adventure. Final stop was four days of fishing on the Kenia Peninsula. We lucked out and the weather (days we fished) was good and the sockeye (red) salmon run was epic. After we hit our limit on sockeye we targeted rainbow trout (which were only catch and release). Silver salmon were few and far between. Our guide, James, was friendly and helpful and put us on fish. One one complaint, thru the owner, I had booked one day for a fly-out trip to fish a more remote lake on the other side of Cook Inlet. The morning of the trip, we were told it was canceled because of foggy conditions at the remote lake. This trip was suppose to be one day of the four days scheduled for fishing. I didn’t adequately understand ahead of time that the fly out was with different guides etc so that when the trip got canceled we discovered that James was booked with another party for the day and that left us with nothing to do, no fishing. Kenia Fishing For Fun can’t control the weather, but I didn’t understand that a canceled fly out meant a lost day of fishing. There was no backup plan. Being my first time booking this kind of trip, I didn’t ask enough (the right) questions. Again, weather is outside of anyones control and the river fishing we did was great and the service provided was very good. I would definitely fish with James again
