4.5Mt. Marathon(132 reviews) - Great Local Tradition! Mountains • Monuments & Statues
We were in town the week before the Mt. Marathon Race and visited friends at Brownell Inn at the base of the mountain. During the week we met several people who were there training for the race by running the trail. It is said to be the toughest 5k on the planet. Seward celebrates the race every year when people from all over the world come to compete and enjoy being in such a glorious place and time. We walked part way up and got a real feel for what race day must be like. In it's own way it is a wonder of the world!See more..
4.5BLM Arctic Circle Monument Sign(117 reviews) - It's a sign off the highway - but it's the ARTIC CIRCLE!!! Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
If you are planning a trip on the Dalton Highway, then you must stop. It is just a sign off the main road, but it's the entrance to the Artic Circle!! We visited in January 2022 and the Dalton was covered in snow and ice. We had a 4x4 with studded tires, so the drive wasn't too terrifying (but it was definitely scary). We saw 1 bird during our visit, and that was it. It was -25 degrees below zero, so I am sure most of the furry creatures were hunkered down trying to stay warm.See more..
The statue rests near the end of the piers downtown, surrounded by plaques that tell her story as well as the story of Juneau. Her nose is polished to a shine from all the pets she's gotten. Her story will warm the hearts of those who stop by. It's on the way to the shops, so you can't miss her.See more..
4.5The Whale Project(73 reviews) - Breaching whale with mountains for the background Monuments & Statues
The statue is amazing with great details showing a breaching whale with mountains and the town for the background. It seems like it is of real life size with fins open in the rotational fall of the humpback whale. Great artwork and great location to exhibit (next to the bridge connecting Douglas to Juneau). It was a humbling experience to stand here and think of the magnitude of the ocean. The plaques state the names of those lost and the vessel they were in. I was blown away to see kayaks listed on there, not just large ships etc. There are concrete benches right behind the memorial to sit and take in the ocean view and watch the sun set.See more..
4.5Alaskan War Veterans Memorial(50 reviews) - Out of the way but worth thee visit Spent < 1 hour Monuments & Statues
This is on the road from Seward to Denali. It was located here at the request of the veterans who did not want it in a metro setting. See more..
Ok….I love statues that we can have fun with. The population movement towards the gold fields of Alaska is quite serious. Most of the miners either lost everything or everything and their lives. Fun for pics, but really should be viewed for more serious contentSee more..
"The Rock" sculpture is located at the Visitor Center right along the cruise boardwalk in Ketchikan. The sculpture talks about the history of Ketchikan. The sculpture is made up of a group of seven life sized figures. The sculpture is headed by Chief Johnson whose outstretched arms welcome visitors. Then the other figures represent groups of people important in the development of Ketchikan - the logger, the fisherman, the miner, the bush pilot, the Tlingit drummer, and the pioneer woman. This is a beautiful artwork which provides historical context.See more..
We saw this Chief George Kyan Totem Pole while we were on our way to the salmon ladder on Creek Street. The pole has three figures, the Crane at the top, the middle one is a Thunderbird and the Brown Bear at the bottom is Chief Kyan's family crest. This Chief Kyan totem pole is the second replication. We stayed and took a few photos. Happy Travelling!See more..

4.0Storehouse No. 4(8 reviews) - Funny Little Place Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings • Monuments & Statues
Amazing little place, it is stuck in a time vortex. Amazing to see no one there, no US border security at all. Taking photos around the area, just awesome.See more..
As part of our trip to Alaska, my group (2 couples) wanted to see this monument. It is located just west of the airport parking area (~1 block west). This is a monument to Wiley Post and Will Rogers – one of the items on our list of things to see while in Barrow. Although the snow around it was deep, we were able to get close enough to see it and take photos. The crash that resulted in their deaths took place just outside Barrow. At the time, Will Rogers was probably the most famous celebrity in the United Sates, and Wiley Post was an aviation pioneer that was working toward developing flight routes from the United States across Russia into Europe. Anyone with an interest in history and visiting Barrow should take the time to view this monument. After arrived at airport, you can simply walk down the street and spend a few moments reading the inscriptions.See more..
