Funny Little Place

Amazing little place, it is stuck in a time vortex. Amazing to see no one there, no US border security at all. Taking photos around the area, just awesome.

    Alaska's First Masonry Building
We, like so many others have come to Stewart – Hyder to see the bears catching fish at the USDA “The Fish Creek Wildlife Observation Site” and to go up the road to the Salmon Glacier. We are crossing the border from Canada into the United States of America. Here at the border is Alaska's first masonry building, built in 1896; under the direction of Captain David D. Gaillard, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and a monolith, resembling a miniature Washington Monument, declares the official border between Canada and the USA. The masonry building is officially known as “Storehouse No. 4” and as “AHRS Site No. KET-030” and as “Eagle Point Storehouse”. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 with interior dimensions of 10 by 15 feet (3.0 m × 4.6 m) and its walls are 12 to 18 inches thick. According to a plaque, the building is cared for by the Bureau of Land Management and is treasured as a national historic place. In 2004, Forest Service crews worked to restore the building to its original condition. Take the time to read the signs or take pictures of them for later reading. Also get a picture with the monolith because how many times do you get to actually stand with one foot in the USA and the other in Canada?

    At the Canadian boarder
We were returning from Hyder to Canada and saw this just before the border crossing. It is a meet little spot. To stop to see the boarded marker is there as well. Really meet little stop. Felt awkward stopping right before we approached the boarder lol but we are glad we did.
