Beautiful artwork
"The Rock" sculpture is located at the Visitor Center right along the cruise boardwalk in Ketchikan. The sculpture talks about the history of Ketchikan. The sculpture is made up of a group of seven life sized figures. The sculpture is headed by Chief Johnson whose outstretched arms welcome visitors. Then the other figures represent groups of people important in the development of Ketchikan - the logger, the fisherman, the miner, the bush pilot, the Tlingit drummer, and the pioneer woman. This is a beautiful artwork which provides historical context.

Historical
Stopped by to see the Rock by the seaside. So very interesting to learn about the carver and what it stands for...the carver also does totem poles! Loved the fact that each of the groups of people were represented who made Ketchikan what it is today such as the fisherman, carpenter, miner, aviators, etc. Beautiful !
