Gorgeous views and easy hiking trail

This is very close to Juneau area. Very good access both hiking and parking. Easy access to glacier and hiking trails. Nugget falls is a must do. Easy flat hike to get right up to the glacier and falls. We went in April and there was still some ice and snow on the trail. We didn't have spikes or crampons but was easily done with hiking boots. Absolutely amazing views and you can literally walk right up to the falls. Great views even if you don't hike. The visitors center was closed and opens end of May. Parking lot is a great, dark place to view the Northern Lights. We saw a little of the lights at around midnight.

    Beautiful waterfall!
We were able to visit Nugget Falls on an evening where it had been raining all day and there was still a light rain falling when we started on the trail. We encountered only one other group on the walk and had the waterfall all to ourselves. It's simply stunning! The walk is an easy one, almost completely flat the whole way. I imagine it would be mostly shady on a sunny day. Wear a rain jacket if you'd like to get closer to the falls as it puts off an impressive mist. Getting closer to the glacier is icing on the cake. We were glad to be able to visit during an uncrowded time. I would imagine during the day when cruise ships visit that the area gets quite crowded, but it was lovely in the evening.

    Worth the Walk!
Mostly flat 1 mile (each way) trail, people walk, bike, push strollers, even wheelchairs. Huge 365ft falls is Roaring an enormous amount water, you can feel the ice cold spray from 50 feet away! Plus 1 mile closer to the Mendenhall, Glorious Views of the Mendenhall Lake and surrounding mountains. Worth the walk!
