    Day trip to Brooks Falls
Visited Brooks Falls via a float plane from Homer on August 25, 2021. Our flight the day before was canceled due to poor weather (give yourself a few days in case this happens and it's important to your trip to go!). We were able to call around to other operators and get a flight for the next day. The time at the park is limited given that we did it as a day trip, so I would recommend getting lodging ahead of time if you want more time with the bears. The overall experience is remarkable and ranks among my best wildlife experiences overall. We saw 10-15 bears salmon fishing, including a few cubs.

Bear and nature viewing are incredible! The trail has a safety concern.
The bear and nature viewing in July is perhaps the best nature viewing in all of America. My only suggestion may be to have patrolling rangers regularly walking up and down the trails. My young kids, ages 7.5 and 10, encountered a grizzly bear that “jumped” onto the trail back to Brooks Camp. We walked back gently towards the viewing platforms and were aided by a larger group, who along with us, backed off the trail a few yards into the woods. The bear then walked on by in benign fashion. It was a scary encounter though for sure.
