Kodiak Brown Bears seen here

Saw a Kodiak Brown Bear here on two different days (on the Kodiak Life Tour). Also saw otters, eagles, and other birds. Beautiful view from a lookout point high above the bay.

    Bear on the flats
After almost giving up on seeing a bear (flights were grounded due to fog, rain, wind) we were driving back from Fossil Beach on our last day when we saw a little crowd at a take out on the south side of the bay. Yes! a young male Kodiak had wandered out from the creek and was eating sedge ? on the flats below. This was also a good area to watch birds. Hit or miss though, like a lot of wildlife watching. Quite beautiful in the rain even without wildlife.

Easy to reach on the Kodiak road system
Women's Bay is just south of the town of Kodiak, on the road system & includes the US Coast Guard base. Its calm waters offer good seasonal viewing for wildlife (including beautiful Emperor geese) and streams with lots of pink salmon (during summer). The best view of this waterbody is reached on the top of a scenic overlook just past the small community of Bells Flats -- and when you head out there, you can enjoy the great food & beverages at the Java Flats Cafe (my favorite Kodiak eatery).
