Pasagshak River, Alaska, United States

4.5 (5 reviews) Spent Ranking #12 in Kodiak Island Bodies of Water

beautiful drive

What a beautiful area to explore. The paved road out to Fossil Beach and Surfer's beach is wonderful! Lots of fishing along the river, tons of sea birds and wildlife. Take a packed lunch and explore the coast.

Come for the hiking, stay for the views
We visited this with a local guide and watched the fishermen trying to catch salmon from the salmon runs. Definitely follow the road south and take the dirt road to the right about a mile past the beach, at the top of the hill. You'll go directly past the cattle herd to the south-facing cliff. From there, watch the whales swimming past the point and the dozens of sea otters frolicking in the kelp. Awesome!

    a kodiak must destination
careful driving on the road from hitting fox, deer and even bear, from herds of free range horses, cattle and buffalo. Look for gaggles of geese and flocks of ducks. you might even see a bald eagle if you look real close. enjoy the 40 mile PAVED drive !
