Hidden gem, beautiful mile-long loop hike in center of Seward
This was such a nice surprise during our visit to Seward. The Two Lakes hike is a loop trail which goes around 2 lakes and offers views of 2 waterfalls. The trail is well defined, but has many tree roots and rocks to navigate. The elevation change is minimal and easily managed by my 61-year-old knees. The trail winds through a lush forest which is strewn with occasional intriguing artifacts - perhaps from the 1964 tsunami? There are 2 parking areas; one at the north end and one at the south end, each with picnic tables overlooking the lake (but with no restrooms). This is a great activity for families or adults with a bit of time to enjoy being outdoors in Seward. Highly recommend.

Hike for Normal People
Our family has a number of mountain climbing Mt. Marathon racers so for the rest of us we need something a little less challenging. The Two Lakes Park is right in town and is a beautiful place to walk casually with only a slight level of difficulty. And there are plenty of places along the way to rest and just dawdle. They signs suggest you be on the lookout and take your bear spray but I didn't ever feel like we were in a dangerous situation although everyone should always be prepared in Alaska. This is just a lovely park to enjoy without overdoing it! You can take the kids here no problem.

Local Stomping Ground
Ah, Two Lakes. This is where you go if you want to get out of the house but don't want to spend money. A nice 25-minute nature trail goes around the lakes, and you can pick berries and munch along the way. A fire pit and a picnic table at the trailhead make for a great bonfire spot. Went here a lot this summer, and it will definitely make up a good portion of next summer as well.
