    Warren...The conductor...best of the.northwest
After days of.planes...trains..buses and rafts my husband thought he could catch a break and just take pictures on this clear and beautiful Saturday at the lovely Takeetna Lodge of stunning Denali..shining with many of the locals in awe of it's magnificent beauty this day. Instead, I begged again to follow the TA leaders and take the train to Hurricane Gulch and barely succeeded once he heard we would be on this train up to 7 hours. We buy our tickets and we wait with our group for the train to come. The conductor, Warren, dressed in his railroad overalls with matching cap arrives and I am silently concerned I have signed up for a bad Disneyland ride. He runs through his very short list of rules. I look around and see every other person getting on the train with coolers ...fishing poles..rafts. BYOB..smart folks.are prepared picnic style with wine and beer. All aboard! Our next 7 hours were something I could have never planned or imagined. All of it begins and ends with our conductor and leader Warren and his perfect team. I cannot recall when I have last met a person that so genuinely loves what he does and is clearly so connected with people he serves in this small town. You have the choice to sit or stand where you please. Have your cameras ready. My personal favorite spot was in the baggage car with a wide open doors. We saw many of the locals who live in remote cabins only accessed by this train be picked up and dropped off where needed. During our ride we saw some the most fantastic scenery..bears.catching salmon, bright orange salmon congregating to end their time in the river...and then the Holy Grail...a bull moose next to the tracts that Warren masterfully backed up the train allowing the moose to continue his show. Thank you Warren for an experience we will treasure always...also thank you to all of your generous passengers, in particular Mary Lovel (Journey to a Dream author) and family for being such awesome ambassadors and providing the great tip for dinner (Latitude 62 for Saturday Night Prime Rib Special)..

    Wonderful train ride and views!
The hurricane turn train ride is an incredible trip. The last whistle stop train ride in the country provides a chance to see a transportation style that is almost extinct in the US. The view of Denali (Mt. McKinley) is spectacular. Conductor Warren is informative and entertaining. This is must ride in Alaska.
