A 5 Hour round trip - Moderate to hard hike with spectacular views
Take the 448 bus from Davey Street to the Fern Inn stop - Approximately 10 km ($5.00). The track starts across the road and is well sign-posted. The first major stop is the Silver Fern Falls which is approximately 1km along the track. From there you climb past the the Lost Freight Cafe on the Pinnacle path to the summit. I am a reasonably fast walker and this took about 2 hours. Some sections are steep and may require poles but on the whole I think its a moderate to hard climb. There are several options on route to take paths to other sides of the mountain to look at different features. Each path is labelled with difficulty and a time. PLEASE NOTE: The conditions do change quickly. We hiked in Feb and the change in temperature and conditions was quite dramatic. On the summit there are a number of observation posts and a road leading down from the car park if you want a more leisurely decent.

Must visit place in Hobart!!
Omg!! The must visit place in Hobart for amazing views!! Weather does change quickly though, so you may leave the city with views of the mountain, but by the time you arrive, which is a 45 min drive, it may be covered in cloud, so plan your trip. Viewing area is great as on windy days, it’s really quite cold up there.

Trip to kunanyi (Mt Wellington)
We went to kunanyi (Mt Wellington) during our trip to Hobart with Red Decker. We were very fortunate in that it was great weather and our driver, Christian, was fabulous. Christian was very informative and we even stopped part of the way up for a quick 10 minute detour to view Hobart. You get 30 minutes at the top which is enough time to have a look around. Be warned it is very cool at the top even on a mid September sunny day! Overall well worth it. $65 per adult gets you the trip plus 48 hours to use the hop on hop off bus around Hobart.
