  1. 4.5 Battery Point Sculpture Trail (1.536 reviews)
    - A good excuse for a walk around beautiful Battery Point
Historic Walking Areas • Scenic Walking Areas
    Battery Point Sculpture Trail image
The sculpture trail is a great idea and a great excuse to wander some of the most beautiful parts of old Hobart. Battery Point is the oldest part of Hobart and was home to ship builders, whalers, seamen and everything that you would expect from a wild old seafaring outpost. The area is simply full of stunning period home, almost universally maintained to perfection and many with priceless water views. The sculpture trail itself is a good workout, this is not flat country! Online & printed info could be better, but we managed and as I said, it was a good way to get out for a good walk in a pretty special part of the world. See more..
  2. 4.5 Cataract Gorge (93 reviews)
    - Well worth a visit, adults and children alike
Spent 2-3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Hiking Trails • Scenic Walking Areas
    Cataract Gorge image
We were visiting Australian relatives in Launceston and they recommended the gorge and we weren’t disappointed. On arrival from the car park the path round to the left and cross over the suspension bridge, stop in at the cafe for a coffee and scone. The peacocks are brilliant. Then continue on down alongside the river to the entrance into the gorge and the old iron bridge in Launceston, cross the bridge and then turn right following the path back into gorge working your way up the hill. It’s quite steep in parts but well worth the climb. You’ll eventually find yourself back at the entrance to the park. Finally, take a return journey on the old chair lift and cross over the gorge and back again, $20 adult return or $15 for OAPs. Highly recommended. See more..
  3. 4.5 Horsetail Falls (59 reviews)
    - An amazing walkway!
Spent < 1 hour Piers & Boardwalks • Lookouts • Scenic Walking Areas
    Horsetail Falls image
I was not planning to walk to the Falls, but the walkway caught my eye as I was driving past and I just had to stop. The engineers have done a fantastic job attaching the walkway to the side of the hill. A strenuous walk but worth it for the spectacular views. The walkway is very exposed, so be prepared for cold, wet and windy weather. The Falls themselves were not very impressive from the walkway, but it was the experience that I enjoyed. See more..

  5. 4.5 Bay of Fires (41 reviews)
    - Loved it
    Scenic Walking Areas
    Bay of Fires image
Did quite a bit of hiking in the area. A 15km walk from Binalong via Dora point, then inland and back via Humbug recreational area. Next day from Cosy Corner back to Binalong. So beautiful. Transport from St Helens to Binalong was a bit of an issue. No cars for hire, taxi didn't work, no busses. I found some friendly people who drove me out for a fee and I hitchhiked back, which, at the age of 67, I hadn't done in a long time. . Took a million photos of the breath taking beauty of this part of the world. See more..
  6. 4.5 Hazards Beach (30 reviews)
    - Stunning Beach - but how to get there?
    Beaches • Scenic Walking Areas
    Hazards Beach image
Hazards is a stunning white sand beach – more beautiful up close than Wineglass bay. And because it’s on the inside of the bay, a safe swimming spot. That’s why the tour groups and water taxis come here to drop people off for the short walk across the isthmus to Wineglass Bay. The boat tour or water taxi is easily the best way to do this. If you want to walk here the direct route is about 2 hours of very dull, hard walking through tea tree and rocks direct from the carparks. The other way is the 4 hour circuit up to the lookout, then down the 1000 stairs to Wineglass Bay and across the isthmus. There are no toilets or water here, so stock up. The only toilets are at Wineglass Bay and the car park. But there’s a wide, white sand beach which boats can easily approach, and plenty of safe swimming. There’s decent shade at the end closest to Coles Bay and this is where most people seem to stop for the day. See more..
  7. 4.5 Castle Rock (13 reviews)
    - Just Live the Orange Rocks and Coastal Vegetation.
Monday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Scenic Walking Areas
    Castle Rock image
We were on a tour and went to Castle Rock in Marshall Bay. The rock is huge and sits in the beach. I loved the beautiful coastal vegetation in the area. The orange lichen called Caloploca is just amazing and makes for some awesome photography. See more..
  8. 4.5 Trousers Point Walk (12 reviews)
    - Short, easy walk
Spent 1-2 hours Scenic Walking Areas
    Trousers Point Walk image
This is a relatively short stroll - less than 2.5km - and the trail is relatively well marked. There aren't any stairs but it's not wheelchair friendly. Small children won't have any trouble and there are a range of lovely views along the coastline. Even in overcast weather this would still be a worthwhile walk. Also there aren't any steep inclines to deal with so older or less fit people should be fine. There is the option of going on to Fotheringate Beach at the end too. Once you reach the end you come out at a carpark and can just follow the road back. In fact if there was someone in your party who didn't fancy the walk they'd be the perfect person to leave with the car to pick you up at the far end. See more..
  9. 4.0 Whyte River Track (7 reviews)
    - Whyte waters
    Scenic Walking Areas
    Whyte River Track image
This is a pleasant loop bushwalk out of Corinna that takes about an hour to complete. Our highlight of the walk was the beautiful views across the Whyte and then Pieman rivers. There is a great spot for a picnic (table and benches) right beside the river. We also spotted lots of small birds and a pademelon during our hike. Not all the track was well maintained, especially in the first section between the holiday cottages up the hill from the Corinna pub/cafe and the Whyte River. In fact found the start of the walk quite hard to find, but you need to walk in among the cottages - the start is next to the cottage that is about the furthest away from the hotel. See more..
  10. 4.5 Huon Pine Walk (6 reviews)
    - Nice and easy ... but much tougher if you push on
    Scenic Walking Areas
    Huon Pine Walk image
The Huon Pine track is a lovely, wheelchair-accessible walk of about 10 minutes - all on boardwalk. It follows the Pieman River and there is good information along the track about the local tree species and the history of timber-getting along the river. At the end of the boardwalk the track becomes the Savage River track, a very different proposition. It is a tougher, 'wilder' walk than the Huon Pine walk and includes a steep climb and then a steep descent to the Savage River near its confluence with the Pieman. There is a lot of colorful fungi to be seen along the way. See more..

  15. 4.5 Julius River Rainforest Walk (4 reviews)
    - Yet another Tarkine treasure
    Scenic Walking Areas
    Julius River Rainforest Walk image
Julius River is another essential stop-spot along the Tarkine circuit drive. (The parking area has an excellent picnicking/barbecue area and toilets - another good reason to stop.) There are two main walks here - the Rainforest walk which takes about 30 mins and the longer Sinkhole walk. We were only did the Rainforest walk, which was just spectacular: a spellbinding forest of majestic trees, giant tree ferns and massive fallen logs, which were often hosts to a kaleidoscope of colorful fungi. There is a waterhole that's said to be good place to spot platypus, though we had not luck. The track climbs over a hill at one point but most of this section is on boardwalk, making the walking fairly straightforward. See more..
