What a find in Northern Tasmania. With an Entry Fee of $5.00 and $4.00 for Pensioners it is a bargain and well worth a visit. It resides in an historic John Lee Archer designed building built in the 1830’s with many rooms full of nautical artefacts providing information on the Pilots and some of the tragedies that occurred in this area. The Pilot Service dates from 1805 making it one of the oldest in Australia. Volunteer staff were helpful and friendly and there is also an adjacent café in a heritage listed building where you can have a drink or something to eat. Highly recommended for a visit. See more..

Really appreciated that the volunteer at the museum willingly allowed me to view the exhibits although I arrived near closing time, the only attraction that was open on the Saturday afternoon. The $5 admission fee a pittance when I was advised of the variety of displays. It was only established in 2015 and exhibits memorabilia from wars where Australian forces have been involved. Its centrepiece is the Bell UH-1H Iroquois helicopter, the workhorse of so many military campaigns and the only one of it’s type on public display in the State. The helicopter alone is worth the visit. There were also two VC recipients with connection to Scottsdale, Alfred Gaby and Stan McDougall, the medals awarded for action in WW1. See more..
