4.5Carter House(1.355 reviews) - Story telling made the tour Saturday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Speciality Museums • Historic Sites • Battlefields
The Carter House was built around 1830 by Fountain Branch Carter. By the time of the Civil War it was a large agricultural operation. In the years leading up to the Civil War nearly thirty enslaved people lived and worked on the farm. The Carter home and property was consumed by the Battle of Franklin on November 30, 1864. The house served as headquarters for the United States Army during the battle. One of the Carter sons was mortally wounded during the terrible fighting and died in the house two days later. Sixty minute Classic house tours are offered as well as Battlefield, Slavery, and Extended tours.See more..
4.0The Lost Sea Adventure(1.281 reviews) - A fun underground excursion Nature & Wildlife Tours
At the suggestion of a local, this reviewer was keen to see the Lost Sea cavern in Sweetwater, having visited various other caves over the years across the eastern US. The Lost Sea experience turned out to be a lot of fun. During the walk to the lake, the guide offered a wealth of information about the history of the cave and was a delight to listen to. The path itself was dimly lighted and contained slopes and stairs, but generally it was smooth and even, though in a couple of places the ceiling does get a bit low for 6-footers. There are rest areas every so often, which is a thoughtful touch since the walk seemed to be at a fairly fast pace. At the lake itself are a couple of electric boats, and visitors can see the cave fish (stocked, not natural) swimming around below. The walk back to the surface retraced the earlier path, I think. The guide did point out other cavern rooms which were available for other kinds of tours and overnight stays. A sign noted that both cameras and flash were welcome. That was nice to see, since while there was usually enough ambient lighting for taking snaps, sometimes to pull details in the distance a flash proved most handy. Next to the building's reception room is a modest gift shop, as well as restrooms. There seems to be quite a lot of parking available. Overall, this was a neat experience and another reminder of the fascinating world in the limestone caverns beneath our feet.See more..

4.5Grotto Falls Trail(927 reviews) - Short hike to a nice walk behind falls. Hiking Trails
We did this hike to the falls with the entire family...2 grandparents, 4 adults, 1 teen and a 7 and 2.5 year old. Everyone walked on their own and made it there and back. We walked behind the falls, touched the falls, put our feet in the water and took many great shots. The 2.5 year old grandson even had us singing the Ants go Marching as we hiked the trail. GO EARLY! This is a short hike to this falls and parking can be tricky if you sleep in and then decide to go hike.See more..
My wife and I had a great tasting experience led by Tori. She was articulate and knowledgeable, a local with ultimate authenticity but also a NY culinary background that allowed her to provide good pairings for the various George Dickel whiskeys. The tour had to have had only 5 others, so the small setting was excellent and allowed for a better experience. The gift shop had so many cool things and bottles to purchase (we bought a bunch of glasses). I’ve been to several distilleries both in the US and Scotland, and this is on-par with the top notch tasting experiences (I think highly dependent on your tasting guide though). The only downside is the distillery was closed for tours at the time which we were bummed about...but hopefully that means we’ll be back. Highly recommend regardless if you’re a whiskey connoisseur or just passing through!See more..

4.5Athena Statue(659 reviews) - Incredible statue and one of a kind experience. Saturday: 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM Monuments & Statues
We were in Nashville for a work conference. On our last day in town, we had time to go to see the Parthenon. That was exciting in itself, but I had no idea we would encounter such a beautiful sight inside of the statue of Athena. She stand over 42 feet tall in her own large room. the top of her head nearly touches the beautiful skylights above. She stands on a 8 foot tall platform making the view even more impressive. For a height comparison, she is holding a 6 foot tall statue of Nike in the palm of her hand. There is room in front of her to hold at least 200 people to observe. You can also walk all the way around her to view the ornate shield she is holding and read the informative signs of the history and the myth. It is an amazing experience and this alone is worth the $10 admission to get in. Very highly recommended, a don't miss it experience.See more..

We visited Shelby Farms Park several times during our last visit to Memphis. There are hiking trails, a small eating place, gift store, water activities, and during the holidays a drive-through light show for a fee. Our hike along the Chickasaw Trail took us past the Disc Golf Course and several lakes and ponds. It was well marked and maintained, and many of the trees and brushes were also marked with ID tags/plates. One evening, we paid the nominal fee to drive through a circuit festooned with Christmas-like lights with non-denominational motifs. It was not awe inspiring, but it made for a fun drive, which we all enjoyed.See more..
4.5Gatlinburg Trail(554 reviews) - Very pleasant hike Spent 2-3 hours Hiking Trails

Visited on a beautiful sunny day in early Spring. Just me and my doggie. It's a $5 entrance, follow the path to parking and from there you have several trails to take. I took the Lakeside Trail all the way through, it really is 1 hr and 30 minutes trail walk. And I especially took my time stopping and admiring the peaceful views. Once I got back to the parking lot I took a few steps down to see the dam waterfall. Although it's called a "park" it truly is more than that, it's the spot for hiking and biking, a true gem of this city. Moved here 4 months ago, been here twice and will definitely be a frequent spot for me. Can't wait to see it in all 4 seasons but this place has a very tranquil feel. There's also a section to view animals but dogs are not allowed, so I didn't go through it this time. See more..

My wife and I were interested in checking out the Lorretta Lynn Museum. We expected it to be small, boy were we supposed. Be sure to take a tour with the tour guide, and if you get Robin, your in for a real treat. She was quick to point out just about everything, and answered any question we could hurl at her. Although she denied being part of the family, we could see she knew it all. We toured (a replica) of the "Butcher Holler" that Loretta was born in. To a more modern house she moved into when moving here. (Think of her "Gone With the Wind" looking house, ) we saw her golden records, and many awards in the museum. I see you can camp there too. Don't miss this one. Ask for Robins tour!See more..

If you can handle a strenuous trail 1.8 miles up (3.6 miles RT) then this is a must do hike for you! We planned accordingly and the pay off of the view from the official end is totally worth it. You are NOT supposed to hike past the gate onto the actual chimney top but when we got to the top, people were on it coming down. Even if the trail was open, I would not attempt it; too treacherous. So still worth it to see the view at the end.See more..
4.5Tennessee Riverpark(457 reviews) - Beautiful area next to the aquarium Parks • Hiking Trails
We had a couple of hours to spare before heading into the aquarium so we decided to check this place out. We were there on a Saturday and there were vendors everywhere selling stuff. We bought homemade cookies which were amazing! The walk by the river was absolutely beautiful and the murals down the stairs was a nice surprise. We didn't have time to walk the whole thing but we did love what we saw. There is no free parking here so you'll have to park in paid lots or in a parking garage and walk over. At least it's free to walk around. I would definitely visit again and next time I plan to book a boat tour as well. See more..

We walked this hike in about 4 hours. On your way to the falls it is all uphill and can be difficult. The way down is easier. It is definitely worth it when you get to the falls. The falls are beautiful and there are rocks to sit on and eat a mid hike snack. I would recommend going early in the morning to beat the crowds and for cooler weather in the summer.See more..
