A lovely spot to dine and visit. I visited during a recent stay during a visit to Rochester it was a little over a half hour out of the city. We are gluten-free and they had a delicious gluten-free crust for their pizzas with a safety protocol for cross-contamination. Unique pizzas my daughter had the corn and pepperoni and I had the asparagus one both were delicious and unique. Easy to find in the downtown area. Soon after we arrived, a tour group from the vineyards arrived as well as a bridal party. The good thing is that we did not get lost in the crowd. The wait staff was extremely busy but they handled the crowds well, making sure that we all were served. It appears that the fruit is brought from the vineyard to this location for processing and visitors are allowed to watch. A friend and I came here to try out the winery - little did we know it's also attached to an apple orchard and there is a ton to do! With COVID, we had a wine tasting outside. The tastings were generous portions - we shared one white and one red. All of the wine was good! We will be back to get bottles. The winery is inside of a barn and has a very charming rustic feel. I had been to Chankaska Winery once before to see a friend perform on the patio; however, did not get to experience the tasting room. This time I did and I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoy being able to taste wines before I purchase a glass or bottle. When at Chankaska they give you chips that you redeem for the wine you want to try, which is better than having them preselected for you! There is a charge for the tasting but very minimal, I think it was $5. However, if you join the Wine Circle than it is free and receive additional discounts! So I joined and cannot to receive my first 2 bottles in January. They have a variety of wines to please almost anyone's taste and a limited food menu, but everything looked delicious; however, we did not eat. I will be going back again really soon and look forward to trying more wine and their food, and using my Wine Circle membership.See more..

A friend and I stopped here while we were in the area. It is located at a house on a hill so you have to do a bit of walking from the parking lot. It was a live music day and it was fabulous sitting out on the patio with the music and a glass of wine. The wine was very good! We were disappointed that they had run out of wood fire pizza for the day but just an excuse to go back at some point :) Loved the atmosphere and it seemed like a place for all ages. The Zeitgeist wine was beautiful, and we had a seasonal food specialty with wild mushrooms, plus a trio of cheeses with artisan breads. Absolutely wonderful! We took a chance on this winery based on Google search and reviews of visitors to the winery. The setting was perfect, we had blue skies and 31 degrees in February and the wine tasting room overlooked a valley just picture perfect. We started with a eight-wine sampler consisting of white and red wines dry and sweet and it gave us an idea of what we really liked. We selected a dry red wine and ordered a bottle to go with our order of cheese tray. While we waited, a young lady was crooning for us with her guitar adding to the overall cheerful ambiance. The wine we ordered was great, the cheese plate was fantastic and the whole atmosphere was simply wonderful. The hostess was very pleasant and obliged us with free samples of wine that we wanted to taste. Overall it was a very pleasant evening and my son and I had a great time. Most of the reviews are during the time of previous ownership. The new owners are engaging, friendly, and accommodating. They do a wonderful job keeping up the spacious grounds, which are especially lovely in the summer and fall. The wine offerings are very nice and we usually get the charcuterie board as well. We had pizza in February and it was amazing! The owner was adamant about getting it "just right." We always love coming here. We went here on Halloween and enjoyed the night. Too cold to be outside, but inside was nice and also had a group of 3 the sang and played guitars. The 1st set they asked for requests and they could and did play most everything anyone asked. Amazing. Towards the end of the evening, they asked a girl in that was sitting with her family to come up and sign. They knew her and she sang two songs. Did a fantastic job! The food was also good as well as the wine, and of course we took home 3 bottles for a later date. Absolutely loved the Ice Palace experience with the carved ice and changing colors to go along with the lively music. We went at 6:30pm on a Saturday night, the traffic was backed up to get into the parking lot and the parking lot was very icy and not well lit. We loved stopping at the winery to enjoy a bottle of white wine, we waited around 10 minutes to get into the winery, but the weather was good so did not mind standing outside and enjoying the fires that surrounded the winery. We were coming back from Wisconsin and made a detour to the River View Winery. It's a pretty but winding road up to the top of the bluff. They have a free tasting with the winemaker right there to answer any questions. after the tasting and getting an interesting bottle to take with us we had a glass of wine with another couple who were there enjoying the million dollar view of the river valley below and talking about wineries we've visited.See more..

My son, his wife and I rolled into the parking lot about ten minutes after they were supposed to close. Howard, the tasting room pourer was just getting into his car. He asked if we wanted to taste wine and we told him we did. He cheerfully opened back up and we had a wonderful tasting experience. Most of their offering are California varietals but the winemaker puts his art into them and they are recognizable, but different profiles than what you find in California. It is just a gimmick to get you in the door to buy a full wine tasting. If your voucher comes with free bottle(s) of wine, it is the stuff that isn't that good and they are trying to get rid of it.
