  1. 4.5 Park Point (331 reviews)
    - Sandy Beach

    Park Point image
Park Point is a great spot to hang out, swim and grill if you want. To my knowledge it is one of the, if not the only sandy beach in the area. It is also oddly enough one of the warmer spots to swim. Of course anywhere in Lake Superior is going to be Cold, but this spot was a bit warmer than other places like two harbors. The beach is short a little slanted, lots of drift wood and small sticks. We made a teepee out of drift wood which was a fun time. Make sure you where shoes and watch your step. Diving in the sand to catch a frisbee may not be the best idea. But skipping rocks is very fun! Lots of places to park, some pavillion's with grills and picnic tables. There is a play ground and some volley ball courts. See more..
  2. 4.5 Iona's Beach Scientific and Natural Area (75 reviews)
    - Unique!

Despite the signage only showing southbound traffic where to turn it wasn't hard to find. There's a second stone beach next to the pink beach. The pink stones were very very warm so people were cooling down in the water then lieing down on the sun kissed stones. Trails through some woods lead to rock outcropping. Spent one hour relaxing but didn't walk entire beach. Wobbly. See more..

Great option for a picnic lunch. Stopped there on our way from ND to MSP and gave the kids some snacks and time to run off energy. Great view, picnic tables, bathrooms (albeit, public/less clean…) and relaxing green space. See more..
  4. 4.5 Onyx Beach (48 reviews)
    - Exclusive handicap access available!

This is Black Beach, but it isn't entirely black. The rocks are multicolored. There is an exclusive handicapped parking area that allowed my mobility-challenged husband access without effort! Less than 10 steps from the vehicle and he's enjoying the beach. He was elated. We drove from Two Harbors just so he could do what everyone else was doing. He wanted me to let the world know how grateful he is for this. Yes, it is a very rocky beach. He couldn't make it to the water without serious effort, but he could be at the shore of Lake Superior. It made our trip that much better for us. See more..

  6. 4.5 Agate Bay Beach (23 reviews)
    - Freighter watching
    Beaches
    Agate Bay Beach image
We stumbled on this location while trying to see the Edgar B. Speer come I to the docking area to unload the iron ore. What a special treat it was to see the Tadoussac leaving and the Speer coming in. The views are amazing to be able to watch the freighters come in. You can park and watch or get out and walk along the nice sidewalks or even go out on the point to see the freighters up close. We had been in Duluth at Canal Poi t and watched the freighters coming and going under the aerial lift bridge and that was nice...but this was very special as it July 4th and there were fireworks going off around while the boat was getting into position to moor. This is a great place to see the freighters if you are a boat nerd or just coming to check it out for the first time! See more..

We frequent this park a few times over the summer as it's close to our home. Our daughter who is currently four enjoys swimming at the beach. Also it's very nice to walk around on the paths. Currently a new playground is being built so we look forward to when that is finished. We've only walked through the campground, never stayed there. The campsites don't appear to be very private. I enjoy sitting on the picnic tables and taking in the lake views. See more..

Nice, quiet trails. Can get busy by the beach during the summer. Lots of rude dog owners who let their dogs run wild, off leash. See more..
  9. 4.5 Iona's Beach (11 reviews)
    - Interesting Beach

We're very glad we stopped here. The whole beach is completely covered with lovely pink rocks. There are also a few blue ones here and there that catch your eye. I recommend wearing shoes for more comfortable walking and bringing a towel or blanket to fold up to sit on if you plan to stay more than a few minutes. The day we were there, the beach was quiet and felt secluded. A very enjoyable visit. See more..
  10. 4.0 Square Lake Park (8 reviews)
    - Great Lake!
Spent More than 3 hours Beaches
After many years I finally got the chance to visit the much acclaimed Square Lake. The grounds were very well kept and seemed to have plenty of parking. Compared to most lakes, this one is pretty clear, but from a SCUBA diving perspective, I was disappointed in the overall visibility. We went on the Thursday after Labor Day which I hoped would be relative quite and allow the water to settle down after the big weekend, While we were the only people there, the viz was still rather poor. On average it was only 10-15' max. While I know hundreds of new divers dive here, I can't say that I will rush back to dive it again. See more..
  11. 4.0 White Bear Lake County Park (6 reviews)
    - Scenic White Bear Lake
    Beaches • Parks • Playgrounds
White Bear Lake County Park image
Popular park on the northwest corner of beautiful White Bear Lake which is the second largest lake in the Twin Cities. Good place to picnic or hang out on the beach. White Bear Lake is one of the most popular lakes to take your boat on. There is a boat launch at the park. You can also rent pontoon boats from the marina area. I biked the Mark Sather Trail which behind at the park and travels along the west side of the lake to just past the marina to Lion’s Park. It is better suited to walking rather than biking as many pedestrians are on the trail going out for a stroll. However it offers scenic views of the lake. See more..
  12. 4.5 Point Douglas County Park (6 reviews)
    - Scenic Spot Where the St Croix Joins the Mississippi

    Point Douglas County Park image
I rode my bike here on a cycle tour around Hastings which included pedaling across the Hastings Bridge before turning east. The park is situated on an incredibly scenic spot where the St Croix River joins the Mississippi River near Prescott Wisconsin. It’s a good spot for a picnic plus there is a beach and there was several people fishing in the channel. See more..

  14. 4.0 Shady Oak Beach (1 review)
    - Paddling time
    Beaches
    Shady Oak Beach image
I went specifically to kayak, after reserving one online. This fun beach has lots to offer though, including a swim-out platform, a pavilion and free parking. The price I paid for 1hr of kayak time was slightly more than the fee at Three Rivers Parks, but did include access to this well- maintained beach. My kayak wasn't fancy (very basic 8' Pelican type), and certainly wasn't comfortable, but for a short trip out on this calm water lake, it was okay. I did see a few cool birds in trees and expect to return next summer, but probably won't kayak it again. See more..
